In the early 1970's I saw Elvin Bishop as a warm up act at Winterland several times. Every time this song was in his set:

…..and he always wore overalls:

Short lived Super Group, a Cream/Traffic Combo, making a Stones song their own. Steve Winwood was 21; Eric Clapton 24; and Ginger Baker shy of 30.

* James Dewar, the bass player, sang lead vocals in Robin Trower's power trio. He sounded a lot like David Clayton Thomas of Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Nice!

Funny thing is that in that recent Mason tour rendition of Astronomy Domine, the drumming is actually a lot better than in the original early version! The rest of the crew around Mason though can't hold a candle to Waters, Wright and Gilmour...

~ supposed most likely response when Republicans asked their favorite 'classic' rock band - 'Pink Floyd'

This doesn't seem right, so I asked chatgpt:

"most likely response when Republicans asked their favorite 'classic' rock band"?

The most likely response when Republicans are asked their favorite classic rock band is probably:
Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Here's why:
  • Their Southern rock sound has strong Americana vibes.
  • The band is iconic for songs like "Sweet Home Alabama", which has become a cultural touchstone often associated with conservative values and pride in Southern heritage.
  • They've long been embraced by right-leaning crowds, especially in rural and Southern states.
Other common answers might include:
  • The Eagles widely loved across the political spectrum.
  • Led Zeppelin iconic and non-political, so an easy "safe" answer.
  • Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) nostalgic and working-class appeal.
  • The Rolling Stones classic, but their more rebellious image might rank them slightly lower.

Want me to guess what a Democrat might say in contrast?

if Democrats were asked their favorite classic rock band, a top answer might be:
The Beatles.
Here's why:
  • Universally respected, but especially loved among more progressive crowds for their messages of peace ("All You Need Is Love", "Imagine" via John Lennon's solo work).
  • Their later, more experimental phase aligns with a more open-minded, countercultural vibe that resonates with left-leaning values.
  • Culturally iconic in the 1960s activism era, which is still nostalgic ground for many liberals.
Other strong contenders might include:
  • Pink Floyd their anti-authoritarian, anti-war themes ("Another Brick in the Wall") land well with progressive ideals.
  • Fleetwood Mac especially popular with Gen X and older millennials; emotional, introspective, and a little mystical.
  • Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band classic rock with a working-class heart, but very vocally liberal.
  • Grateful Dead long associated with liberal counterculture and freedom of expression.

Mickey Hart in the John Phillips inspired hat and Phil Lesh with the Neil burns.

The originals:

Jerry with my guitar idol, Mick Taylor, in 1988. 16 minutes in they play West L.A. Fadeaway. Jerry's voice is shot on the vocal but his playing is good. Jerry just keeps looking at Mick and smiling at Mick's superb playing. To this day Mick can still play like a young guy.

I appreciate all kinds of different music covering a 100 year period……but I don't get Arcade Fire on SNL last night and I felt they were pulling my pants down and mocking me.*

I rank it right up there with not understanding why someone paid $120K for this work of art.

~ unlike Bay royalty NRPS, EM was more '-rated' than underrated, but he seemed chill, considerate New England Irish american and lived East Bay, like Reggie. I like to say around here on St Pat's, 'Having (actually) been to Ireland . . . '

Except people are dumb, and I think they'd confuse Pink Floyd for the (seemingly) pro violence in certain Wall songs just like everyone failed to understand what Bruce's Born in the USA was about!

A protest song becomes an anthem in favor of the very thing being protested.
