The Arena, inside.

"The album is made up of portions of two performances from January 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum Arena and the Los Angeles Forum."
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live:_P-Funk_Earth_Tour

*I saw Marshal Tucker and Allman Brothers at the Arena in September, 1973. They opened the doors early and kept us in the cattle pen between the doors and the turnstiles. It got packed so tight I could barely expand my chest to take a breath. They eliminated that practice 6 years later when at a Who concert in Cincinnati, in a similar scenario, 11 people were unable to escape the dense crowd pushing toward them and died by asphyxiation.

After several listens to this, I understand its cult status. It is hypnotic and addictive….and you couldn't have better backing than The Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra" (P.E.R.R.O.).

*I never listened to it once growing up. Great Neil Young backup vocals on Music is Love.

I don't know who the last hippie will be but this guy may have been the first:

eden ahbez - Wikipedia

eden and his buddies in the hills above Los Angeles in the late 1940's

*George Benson, like Nat King Cole before him, had a hit record with eden's song, Nature Boy.

This guy was there also. I met him a few times at Ventura County Farmers Markets in the 1990's. He was quite the character. Drove a van emblazoned promoting the benefits of garlic. He certainly did not look like he was in his mid-80's. Hair was still brown, and he was very much in shape for his age. Quite the character.

Robert Bootzin, or Gypsy Boots. Gone but not forgotten.

I used to visit my cousin, who was my age, in the LA area for a week every summer when I was young. The summer of 1970 I was 15. My cousin had an older brother 10 years older than us. He had just married a gal that was better looking than a centerfold. When I was visting she got a gig appearing on some local TV show in a bikini and Gypsy Boots was on the show too. I think they gave her the title Miss Tom Cat. I got the drift Mr. Boots hung out with hot women.

Speaking of hippies, this is an interesting discussion of the topic on a September,1968 episode of William F. Buckley's Firing Line. Cult literary figure, Jack Kerouac (then 46 years old), is on the panel, drunk as f@uck, and interrupting the other panelists. A year later, after a lifetime of alcoholism, Jack's body basically imploded (like Richard Burton's brain) and he bled out.

Lead vocal: Alan Wilson, member of 27 Club.
"On September 3, 1970, Wilson was found dead in his sleeping bag on the hillside behind Hite's Topanga Canyon home where he often slept. He was 27 years old. An autopsy identified his manner and cause of death as accidental acute barbiturate intoxication." Wikipedia

They also played Campolindo High School in Moraga at least once, and maybe twice in the late '60's, I think '67 or '68.. I was not high school age at that time, or I would have been there.

I'm pretty sure CCR played St. Elizabeth's HS and other East Bay High Schools those same years.
My only claim to fame is that Eddie Money played at a couple of huge open parties at my frat in 1975-1976 period. I handed him the check once, $500. He was a real pro and a gentleman. He had a lead guitarist that could shred it, Jimmy Lyon.

With regard to CCR, you might want to check this out. When I was growing up they were famous for churning out AM radio hits. I had no idea they could perform at this level live:
