Monday night news told me there would be high winds and high fire risk. The State was pre-positioning NorCal firefighters.

Tuesday by noon, fires already started and blazing out of control.

My goodness!



Looks like there are three main fire locations:
Pacific Palisades - Palisades Fire
Altadena - Eaton Fire
Top of San Fernando valley near 1-5 - Hurst Fire

Tens of thousands evacuated. Winds are so high there is no ability for airborne utilities to attack the fire, and obviously it's extremely difficult to fire from the ground when embers are blazing sideways.

Out of control.

I think this is going to be devastating - exceeding Oakland in 91 (3500 homes, 25 lives) and approaching Paradise (14000 homes, 85 lives) in 2018.

I watched coverage from the NBC station in LA for about 30 minutes last night. Horrible stuff, reminded me of the Oakland Hills fire, probably even worse. My heart goes out everyone affected down there.

"Last year, LA city council defunded the fire department by $23 million while redirecting $138 million to the LAPD. Our leaders want a hollowed out police state with no social services. They'll just continue to violently manage discontent rather than solving any social problems"

Can't leave out the millions paid out for police misconduct

From what I saw last night, you could have had 20 times as many firemen and fire trucks and it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

You are mad because funds went to police instead of fire?

Are you part of the defund police crowd?
I wonder what that crowd thinks about the possibility for a lawless civilization?
I wonder if they've considered reality of and lessons learned from recent examples of lawless civilizations.

I look forward to (not really) Trump blaming liberal Californians for these fires. We apparently should cut everything down and should have built 100% out of stucco.

Those are some interesting issues.
Certainly, it would be a lower cost structure to have your restaurant on wheels. No property taxes or sunk cost into maintaining a mortgage. Or no rental of the building to the property owner.
I wonder about tax revenue as well when you're dealing with an all cash business like that.

It seems like municipalities, whether local, county or state, need to have some provisions for mobile businesses like that.

If Pacific Palisades as a community wants them there, then it should create some sort of code for them to exist in a way that doesn't infringe upon other property owners. Why should it be up to Ralph's to police their parking lot like that?

I imagine "wife" would have some thoughts about this.

Palisades Fire has spread to nearly 5,000 acres and 0% containment.
30,000 have been evacuated.

2 fatalities in the Eaton Fire which spread thru Altadena, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Sierra Madre.

300,000 homes left without electricity.

More bruising Santa Ana winds up to 60 mph thru Thursday.

This is gonna be a total catastrophe.
No homeowner will be able to afford insurance in these areas from here on out.

People won't be able to buy fire insurance in "these areas"?
Does all of the western United States get included in "these areas"?

By the way, looking at your photo there, I heard on TV that firefighters recommend NOT planting palm trees on your property.

Fire prevention works. How many controlled burns have been conducted in these areas the past five years?

How many fire trails were removed in this area bc of the lawsuit from the Sierra Club?

How much logging / trail clearing has happened here the past ten years?

Were grazing sheep or cattle ever allowed in the area?

You really should stick to subjects you know something about, but I supposed that would reduce your posting to virtually nothing.

Jacksonville Oregon completely burned down in 1901.





They rebuilt in all brick. So if you tour the downtown it's all old brick construction.
