DEI vs DEI. 15% - 20% of the fleet was out of commission.

Hunter probably started the fire knowing his art was going to drop to $0 value once his demented father is out of office. This will be an interesting valuation by the insurance company: past value based on purchases by those illegally currying failure from his corrupt father or true value of the worthless art?

I hope you told them that it's a pipe dream to think that you can spray tens and tens of thousands of homes with "protective foam" when the threat of a fire looks really bad.

On a tangential note, if you ever want to try a fun experiment at home, water your yard/garden with sea water for a week or so, then come back a couple of weeks after that and report how it went!

I don't live in L.A. so I have no real opinion on Karen Bass as a mayor, and ultimately I don't think her actually being in town during the start of the fire storm would have made any real diference.

That said . . . seems like she's probably done politically. It will be hard to come back from that. Would that we could say the same about Cancun Ted Cruz.

Ships would take too long, the CL-415 can fly across the Atlantic through Britain, Iceland, Greenland, Labrador in less than 24 hours. They have a 2,400km range, so they might not even need that many stops to cross the ocean.

The second CL-415 was back in action today after the hole in the wing from the collision with the drone has been repaired, they are flying again in tandem - see below.

Quebec is sending another pair of CL-415s which should be in LA soon. Look for a 4 plane water bomber convoy later this week.

Bullseye!

Full loop from the canyons to the ocean and back in about 7min

So here's the first article I've seen reporting on why California doesn't have more super scoopers.

The "logic" doesn't seem logical. The fact that a plane isn't the only solution doesn't mean you wouldn't want more of them. Most of the wildfires in CA that threaten homes are proximate to large bodies of water. Seems like more is better. Quebec has 8 planes . . . but California only rents two? Why?

The other concerning aspect is the professor from UC Berkeley worrying about the effect of salt water on the environment. I wonder what he would do if his home was burning down and salt water was the only option to save it?

Meanwhile, instead of salt water, they're dropping the pink flame reetardant (lol the board wouldn't let me type the actual word) which also has a lot of toxicity.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/la-fires-pink-flame-******ants-california/

And then per the article above, Quebec is now sending more planes? So I guess more is better?

This disaster is showing America for what it is...

These disasters are showing what long-term Progressive leadership cause, nationally and locally.

Newsom inherited the 5th largest economy in the world, on the Pacific, strategically located near Asia, abundant natural resources, amazing weather, and they screw it up beyond belief.

Open border, which the drug cartels run, over 200,000 inhabiting open-air drug bazaars (aka homeless), cities turned into literal Mad Max zones, slow-speed train to nowhere, unable to meet basic needs of water and fire protection. $24 Billion spent on drug bazaars, unaccounted. $1B no-bid contract for face masks to China.

DEI Fire leader blames potential victims caught in fires, $750,000 LADWP DEI CEO leaves #1 reservoir empty during an EXTREME DANGER off-the-charts weather event. Governor overstates fire suppression work by 600%, while the LA Mayor takes routine pleasure trips to Paris and Africa. The State with desert and Mediterranean climates essentially ends all standard suppression activities for decades, causing fires to grow in size and insurance companies to move out.

Is Newsoms drinking problem under control?

So there were no problems before Gov Newson ? Everything was peachy keen huh. Both political parties are the problems...no such as progressive but nothing has progressed. I see regression for 400 yrs from my stand pont

Morocco, a country with a GDp 30 times smaller than California, has a fleet of 8 CL-415.

Croatia, which is much smaller, GDP 50 times smaller than CA, has 6 CL-415s.

Dan Walters has written many articles bashing Newsom.*

Newsom, Bass are targets of blame game for LA fires | Opinion

https://calmatters.org/commentary/2025/01/la-fires-newsom-bass-blame/

"Newsom can be fairly criticized for many things he has done or not done, but he is absolutely blameless on the fires, no matter what Trump and other critics might allege.

Newsom has done exactly what one expects a governor to do in disasters marshaled state assets, issued emergency orders, sought factual information to convey to the public and solicited help from other states and the federal government."

*"The major issues facing the state when he won the governorship in 2018 remain largely unresolved, and in some cases have worsened, despite his promises to attack them."

Could the lack of large super soakers be... job preservation?

Pilots for a dozen super soakers a lot less than 50 - 60 smaller planes and choppers.

Good point. Also normally, the job is very, very demanding for pilots and requires very high skills, countries like France stipulate for the CL-415s navy pilot vets with 5,000+ hours who can land a jet on a carrier in bad weather.

I don't recall Walter's being this illogical and uninformed in the past, or maybe I've become more discerning. Here is a half baked recent article he wrote:

Disaster-prone California should adopt a preventive approach, rather than a reactive one

First, he spends 11 or so paragraphs recounting the natural disasters Governor Pete Wilson handled.

Then he offers a few 'preventative' approaches, which includes new building codes and escape routes.

Not a single sentence about fire prevention, fuel reduction, fire breaks, water supplies, appropriate fire equipment, non-banned energy sources, poor leadership, political posturing, etc.

In the article downplaying Newsom's failures, he ludicrously writes: "One reservoir had been taken down for routine maintenance, which had some effect on the water system, but that wasn't a managerial failure, just an unfortunate coincidence."

Idiotic. The 117-million-gallon reservoir was offline for ten months after two wet winters (vegetation growth); and then nine months of drought (extreme fire conditions). Insurance companies noted the high risk and pulled out.

https://calmatters.org/commentary/2025/01/disaster-california-adopt-preventive-approach/

I guess if I decorate a dry Christmas tree with flammable PVC tinsel and put Christmas candles on the tree, when my house erupts in flames its an unfortunate coincidence.

I'd figure well-paid fire professionals would look for bottlenecks and problem areas.

If anyone needs to laugh this morning, turn on the senate confirmation hearings and listen to people like Senator Johnson and Senator Paul pontificate about how California should have prevented the forest fires.

But did the typical attack on California, saying it was maybe not preventable but limitable, while pointing out how you can't stop a hurricane. (No mention of halting construction in hurricane or flood zones, typical.)

I did like Paul's statement that it was mismanagement by CA politician to not have hoses and batteries so the coastal homes could just suck seawater out for homeowners to spray on their places while the fire was going.
Gosh, why didn't I think of that? All I need to know is how much battery capacity to run giant water pumps mounted in the surf.
