Egg prices spiked 15.2% in January, which was the largest price increase since June 2015.
Prices are +53% over a 12 month period.

And contrary to the idiocy on this board repeatedly presented by my local "stalker", the BLS will tell you that the price of EGGS accounted for about 2/3rds of the monthly food at home index which rose by 0.4%

In the 12-months through January, the CPI increased 3.0%
January was + 0.5%

Market economists had forecasted a gain in January of 0.3% and rising 2.9% year on year.

CPI: U.S. consumer prices rise 0.5% in January; egg prices spike 15.2%

The original fact was posted at 8:21. You asked me for links, and I completed your request, despite your baby like tone. All other banter is in response to you acting like a kindergartner.

Perhaps your knowing omission of why the Biden admin had the chickens killed, and your clear implication that it was unnecessary and the sole reason for egg prices going up., is what people take issue with.

Besides: none of those excuses matter. That was the situation when Trump claimed he'd lower prices. So, was he lying? Or stupid? I understand it's often hard to tell when dealing with MAGA. It can also be "both".

It's called Liberal Derangement Syndrome, and it causes moron conservatives to use dishonest debate tactic and outright lies to own the libs, because you really have nothing factual to use.

Zipper.

You suck at shopping. I can buy eggs at Trader Joes for $3.99. I can't believe you would use how bad you are at shopping as a statement on how high the price of something is. Learn to find where eggs are affordable before stupidly overpaying for them and then complaining about it on a message board. Get a clue.

I don't worry about the cost of eggs.
As opposed to you, I make well over $314,000 a year and will be benefitting from Trump's tax cuts.

But I'm sure that there are folks like you that are terrific shoppers and spend their time running around clipping coupons and finding the best deal just to save a few bucks.

Good for You!

That's amazing mister! Great job!

Because I have a minimum wage executive job and my wife has a minimum wage physician job, we can only afford to buy eggs for $3.99!!!
DiabloWags

Yes, of course.

That's why you are able to spend 24/7 here posting all of your rubbish.
You have a minimum wage "executive" job where no one cares if you do it or not.

I'm glad we can finally agree on something.

You like to accuse folks of spending too much time posting here. Do you think I spend all day posting here because your demented mind takes you hours to make a post? I can assure you that a non-intellectually compromised individual can be continuously logged in on a smart phone and make a post very quickly. I have time to work, post on BI a few times a day, and buy eggs for $3.99. It is no miracle. It is just what normal people are capable of, apparently unlike you and your boy Biden.

Wow, that link restricts folks to buying no more than 72 eggs at a time...

Anyway, thanks for honoring my shopping prowess, but it really isn't that big of a deal. Anybody who isn't obsessed with telling everyone how much they make should have enough brainpower to find eggs for less than $9.

Imagine a person who brags about overpaying for eggs? Probably the same type of person who posts on a football board about his expensive cars and earning more than $314k.

The lack of self awareness is amazing.

And back to topic. What exactly is the point here? We all know the price of eggs is up due to bird flu. Is there a reason to think either Biden or Trump are responsible for that? None that I can think of.

When the previous guy was President, the right zeroed in on inflation as much as they could, especially to the extent that it impacted working-class Americans. I do believe the price of eggs was mentioned once or twice.

Since the price of eggs (and to a large extent, prices in general) don't have much to do with who the President is, when I complain about the price of eggs now, I am just joking around (and maybe hoping to own a few righties).
AunBear89

That would be a clever and humorous tactic, if any of the BI Righties had even a shred of self awareness.

And the one or two that do, thinks it's cute that we think they care about being lying hypocrites.

The hip L.A. places are up to around $12-15 for breakfast, not $25. I did manage to get $4.99 grand slams at Denny's less than two weeks ago while on vacation in Palm Springs.

Looks like my next trip to Bette's Diner for brunch is going to cost me about $60 with tip. The California special (poached eggs with ham and griddle potatoes) or the huevos rancheros as the main, with the souffle pancake for dessert. It was much less than that for two, with enough change for the jukebox, not that long ago...

Over time, I do think the president's policies can impact inflation and the overall economy. Too early to say what the impact of Trump 2.0 will be. But for a discrete item like eggs during a bird flu chickdemic . . . hard to get excited.

When is the Mango Messiah going to intervene and greenlight a vaccine that can be administered on farms?

Why is he not doing this???

"This is not sustainable," said Dr. Craig Rowles, science chief at Versova, one of the largest U.S. egg producers.

Instead of resorting to vaccinations, antibiotics and toxic treatments for livestock and animal products, maybe we should instead change farming practices to reduce the incidence of infections and disease in the process itself.

What is Trump and his USDA secretary Brooke Rollins waiting for?

All they have to do is greenlight the vaccine made by Zoetis.

Thus far, 160 million chickens, turkeys, and geese have been euthanized.
There have been outbreaks in at least 972 dairy herds across 16 states.

In the past 30 days alone, bird flu has been confirmed in 134 commercial and backyard flocks in the U.S. as of Monday, affecting nearly 19 million birds, according to the USDA.

If this isn't an emergency situation, I don't know what one is.

If this isn't an emergency situation, I don't know what one is.

And what qualifies you to make such a hyperbolic statement? Perhaps vaccines are the answer, but it concerns me that the same people who got everything wrong with Covid, the "experts" who say that vaccines are the answer to all the world's health problems, are the same people sounding the alarm on the bird flu "emergency." Btw, is there an "emergency" in Mexico or do infected birds, unlike people, respect the border?

What is the truth? I don't know, but if the answer involves more government power and control, my every instinct tells me that the "experts" are gaslighting the public yet again.

The industrial farming process needs to be looked at, as to minimize infections at the source. The egg crisis and mass culling seems like a more US-specific crisis, where the approach has been to maximize production at the expense of health, and to address the infections resulting from those industrial practices with aggressive treatments like the chlorination of chicken meat or vaccinations, which are not healthy, and are pushed by the drug industry. Better farming practices don't require such drastic and potentially toxic measures.
DiabloWags
How long do you want to ignore this user?
In a most ironic fashion, you don't sound very informed.

The reason why MEXICO hasn't experienced BIRD FLU is because they started a VACCINATION campaign in high risk areas almost a year ago.

Duh.

Cal88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Perhaps looking into what constitutes a "high-risk area" would also be appropriate, infections don't develop and spread randomly.
