High risk areas should be obvious.
The poultry farms.

And FWIW, the Netherlands and France have developed and tested a number of vaccines, with France rolling out a vaccination program for farm ducks in 2023.

France itself was declared bird flu-free in December 2024 thanks in large part to its vaccination program.
Meanwhile, here in the U.S. we're still stumbling and bumbling around under Trump and his USDA Secretary.

The "excuse" appears to be that the poultry farms don't want to vaccinate because the industrial meat companies that rely on export markets for their business model, don't want to lose those export markets ($6 Billion) given that most countries refuse to recognize vaccinated meat as bird flu-free.

Yes, it's a CONDITIONAL approval.

For all the reasons cited in my previous post, the question is now whether or not the poultry industry that relies on exports will use it, given that countries do not recognize vaccinated poultry as bird-flu free. There's more to this equation than just a simple vaccine "approval".

But the imports are a drop in the bucket (70-100 million eggs) compared to the 7.6 BILLION table eggs produced last month.
The USDA has already paid farmers roughly $1.2 Billion for the birds they had to slaughter.

The USDA will invest $1 billion in the new plan, which will be paid for, in part, by Department of Government Efficiency cuts. According to Secretary Rollins' Wall Street Journal op-ed:

• USDA will spend $500 million to help enhance wildlife biosecurity measures to help keep the virus off farms. Rollins said USDA will expand a pilot program started under the Biden administration which sends USDA inspectors to assess biosecurity measures on farms.
• The US government will spend $400 million to reimburse farmers with affected flocks. The US already compensates farmers for the loss of their chickens. In December, USDA added a requirement that poultry producers pass a biosecurity audit before they could be compensated.
• USDA, which regulates vaccines for animals, is exploring the use of vaccines and therapeutics but it hasn't authorized use of any yet. Rollins said the agency would spend $100 million in research and development of new therapeutics.
• The US will cut back on regulations on egg producers and "make it easier for families to raise backyard chickens."
• The US government will consider temporary imports of eggs to reduce prices.

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins says that a vaccine is not proven.
She needs to see more data.

"We're just not ready. We don't have enough information.
And we need to fully understand how it will effect the food supply."

Rollins said USDA will push for a new generation of vaccines and therapeutics, though she has not yet authorized vaccination of poultry for avian influenza.

Okay, maybe not "CALIFORNIA" per se, but a CALIFORNIAN: to mess a little bit with my good friends on the fringe right, I hacked into the Government Egg Price website and have been steadily raising the price of eggs for a few weeks now!

Folks have asked me to send the price over $10/doz ASAP. I'm just waiting for the right moment... the moment when I want to see 100 million Americans lose their ****.
