New Jersey primaries for Governor are next week, one of only 2 states to elect a Governor this year. My preferred candidate, Steven Fulop, is a YIMBY, pro abundance (before it was a thing) guy with a very successful track record as Mayor of New Jersey's 2nd largest city.
The winner of the Democratic primary is very likely to be the next Governor. Since 1985 only once has the President's party won NJ Governor (2020-2021 when Democrats Biden and Murphy won - if you recall the media portrayed 2021 as a terrible result for Democrats in NJ despite this achievement because they hate Democrats).
Fulop is likely to lose to generic center-left Democrat, Mikie Sherrill (my Congresswoman since 2018, when we flipped our 20 point red district to blue). I think the takeaway here is that, for as much noise as they make, there just isn't a strong constituency for the YIMBY crowd. This should be an easy win for them but they are MIA.
