She's a 15 year-old girl, for God's sake! Didn't you make mistakes at 15? And it's obvious that her father cooked up the whole idea. He brought the fire extinguisher and I seriously doubt that she found that 20 year-old YouTube video of Maurice Green on her own. Plus, if the kid watches any TV sports at all, she sees basketball players standing over opponents after dunking on them, football players doing choreographed dances in the endzone, etc. The message from the media is clearly that sportsmanship is for suckers.

As I said on the other thread, her coach should set some conditions for her continued participation in track: apologizing to her team, apologizing to her entire school at an assembly, maybe some community service at the school. And her father is the one who should be banned from attending future races.

And I say this as a guy whose politics are almost certainly to the right of yours - a dinosaur once referred to as a moderate republican until I realized I hadn't voted for a republican presidential candidate since GHW Bush. But really, I'm just a guy who remembers how stupid he was at age 15.

This. The kid (and her dad, I guess) made a dumb decision. Nobody got hurt. Give them a consequence commensurate with what they did and move on,.. and make it a learning experience for the future.

Am still very good friends today with buddies of mine that I ran track with at Cal 44 years ago when I walked on.
Both black and white. People like Larry Cowling, Peter Grimes, etc.

Unlike you, I don't wake up every morning thinking that I'm a "prisoner" and the world is biased against me.
That's a terrible burden to carry.

A terribly warm human being that was humble and had such an inviting smile.

I still remember him getting married to his high school sweetheart heading into his senior year at Cal.

Daughter Stephanie ran the hurdles at Cal. Dominique had a standout volleyball career at UC Riverside. Alex played point guard at Loyola Marymount amassing 2,219 points which ranked second in history in the West Coast Conference. Youngest daughter Mikayla, played basketball at Cal for coach Lindsey Gottlieb.

Think he still resides in Benicia.
Has been a long-time mortgage VP at Well Fargo.
Larry still holds the school record in the 110 hurdles in 13.39 (1982) and 400m hurdles in 48.46 (1982)
