Yes they are. They have also announced expedited executions for leaders of the protests. I saw one report that they will be happening as soon as Friday

It makes a big difference if the number killed is 300 versus 12,000-20,000, if those protestors were armed, shooting at police/other protestors, firebombing public places, or if they were unarmed and peaceful a la Kent State.

Also it makes a difference if those protests were instigated and armed by foreign powers.

It's not the government saying this, it is someone from Reuters telling you he spoke with an "unnamed source".

You can't hide mass killings in the thousands in crowded urban settings in 2026, there will be lots and lots of phone footage capturing rivers of blood on streets covered with dozens of bodies.

We'll find out in the coming days and weeks what went down there from more reliable sources.

It's someone from Reuters saying they got this from a government official. But yes, as I noted they are not named.

A senior journalist at Israel's far-right Channel 14 is alleging foreign orchestration behind the Iran protests. Tamir Morag, diplomatic correspondent for Channel 14, claimed the outlet reported that "foreign actors are arming the protesters in Iran with live firearms," which he said explains "the hundreds of regime personnel killed," adding: "Everyone is free to guess who is behind it."

Channel 14 is widely known inside Israel as a pro-Netanyahu, ultra-nationalist broadcaster that routinely advances security-state narratives and aggressive framing on Iran and Palestine.

Morag's comments here echo Israeli and Iranian government claims portraying the unrest as externally engineered, at a time when independent verification from inside Iran remains limited due to internet shutdowns and mass repression.

Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu previously said Israeli agents are "operating right now" inside Iran amid the protests, claiming operatives are active there to "weaken Iran's capabilities."

On Jan. 3, former U.S. Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo posted on X that "the Iranian regime is in trouble" and referenced "every Mossad agent walking beside" Iranian protesters in the streets.

I'm not sure a bombing run is even going to do anything at this point. It's probably too late to turn any tide of revolution now.

(Not that I think the "revolution" is fully over. IMO it is showing weakness in the Iranian regime that things even got this far, so protests could easily return again. But the immediate action appears done for now, so dropping bombs isn't going to change that.)
