This is an interesting case.
Made a noose, sought advice, expressed his despair.
He vented that he wanted to leave the noose out so someone could see it and intervene. Chat said to hide it and keep things private. Family suing.

I'm curious what folks think about the responsibility for the chat bot might be.
Limits on topics? Warning banners? Reporting?

I find myself getting fantastic info from the tool daily. This makes me ponder. Hmmm.

Thank you for sharing.

That is shocking. The company should have exposure and should have to pay up big time.

Why should have more responsibility than the parents, community, schools or anyone else that interacted with this kid?

It is a faceless algorithm that provides answers independent of morality or civilization norms. If the kid googled suicide ior guns or ropes would they have responsibility?

The company wrote the code. The suicide doesn't happen but for their code. AI wrote the suicide note, created a drinking game to help the kid get his nerve, determined a time of evening when he was least likely to be interrupted by his parents because they'd be I'd deepest REM sleep, told him to not seek help, etc. The company deserves a substantial penalty.

The computer is solving a problem which is how it is programmed. Again, it has no morality. That comes from family, friends, schools. People who kill themselves usually voice this. They were first responders

This argument assumes - as does the code - that the only solution for the suicide problem is to do the act. Some acts should never be completed. A better solution would be to call a suicide prevention number or for the AI to refuse to solve the problem. The "just solving a problem" line of thinking is what's going to lead to AI launching a nuke.

I'd agree with that but the root cause for society is still people trusting a machine as to whether you live or die. This is totally unhinged. The way things are going the suicide prevention line will also be AI

People aren't having love affairs. They are addicted to social media.
They don't know how to be social.
They aren't having children.
The circumstances for a social creature like us are dire.

We should at least be able to program Optimus properly!

If Cal starts 3-0, 4-0, or 5-0 he'll be back on growls.
Take your pick. How many wins would it take?

" It is not possible to determine where an individual known online as "Unit2sucks" is living. Search results connect the username to an old student forum, but do not provide any verifiable personal or identifying information.

Here's why this information is unavailable:
Username-based searches are unreliable: The name "Unit2sucks" is a username, not a legal name. Without additional, verifiable information, it is impossible to connect an online alias to a real person and their location.

No public record of the person: No public records, such as court records or voter registrations, link to this specific alias.

Privacy laws: Publicly revealing personal information, especially without consent, is illegal in many places. Websites and services that offer to find people rely on public records, not private information."
