Could the Democrats possibly have 2 weaker supposed "leaders"?

My sense is they will cave (i.e., kneel) to Trump, though perhaps not today but rather after a very short "shutdown".

But here's my more confident, slightly peripheral prediction: Both Jeffries and Schumer will ultimately "cave" to Zohran Mamdani by endorsing his candidacy for NYC Mayor.

The reason is Democrats are sick and tired of these weaklings, and neither can risk a Mamdani endorsement of any primary challenger.

Mamdani will of course be gracious in accepting Jeffries and Schumer's last minute tepid "endorsements", but nothing would make me happier than both of these losers being primaried.

I really don't see the point of "shutting down the government" since it isn't at all clear that the GOP/MAGA _wants_ the non DOD/ICE part of the government open. Messaging around the ACA subsidies has been solid but I think at this point I don't see really the benefit. Get through 14 more months and hope to retake Congress. Ultimately going to be the american public who decide whether they want this or not.

Oh - and ghoulish to think but a hurricane demonstrating that the arsonists have crushed FEMA would be good....or maybe they can do a good job and there was a lot of wasteful bloat. I appreciate real world experiments.

I'm all for holding the line on health care and Dems not voting for a budget that we are fundamentally against.

Republicans control all levers of the Federal government so if there is a government shutdown then it is on them. They have shown they will pass legislation with 50 Senate votes in the past. They can do it again. They control the rules.

Didn't they help take down a sitting president in Joe Biden prior to the 2024 election?

Schumer knows what he's doing, he's been in government for 50 years.
