So, let's unpack that "your president" phrase.
- Trump has said multiple times that he only cares about those who agree with and vote for him, that excludes millions of citizens.
- He purposely punishes (refuses FEMA funding, for example) ENTIRE STATES that he didn't carry in the last election, regardless of the fact that those states still contained millions of his supporters.
- As indicated by his actions on trade that have impacted farmers and cattle ranchers, he doesn't really care about many of his supporters, once the election is over.
- He also stated at the Charlie Kirk memorial in 2025 that he wishes only the worst for his opponents; and it's not a stretch to assume that's anybody who disagrees with him, including me.
Trump delights in blowing up standard norms of behavior when it suits his purpose and celebrating his death isn't insane, it's just outside the norm.
He is your president. Just like Obama was mine even thought I disagreed with nearly everything he did and I think he set the country back decades. He still won the election, making him president. It's really not a defendable position to say otherwise.
I specifically didn't say Trump wasn't "my President" because as long as I'm a citizen and he's the president, then yes, he's my president. But as usual with half the people on BI (across the political spectrum),you started composing your reply before understanding what was said. What I pointed out is that Trump considers the relationship to be entirely one-way - he doesn't give a rat's ass about, and in fact attempts to actively damage, those US citizens who disagree with him.

Trump ran a campaign as a Populist who was going to stay out of "forever" wars and adamantly claimed that the "U.S. should not be the world's policeman".
In fact, he campaigned on being able to end the Ukraine War in days.
He also said he would lower fuel and grocery prices and the cost of living and would balance the budget.
NONE of these pledges have come to fruition.
Not a single one.
