Hormuz Shipping Slumps as U.S.-Iran Strikes Rattle Oil Markets

The US military escorted 40 commercial vessels carrying 18 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz today.

FYI, this is some common sense info to counter the anti-Trump propaganda that we get spammed with on a daily basis.

Speaking of common sense . . .

IF large amounts of crude oil are once again flowing through the Strait of Hormuz as you claim, then why is Brent Crude Oil up $12.00 since August 26th?

Can you explain this?

Thanks.

Speaking of common sense . . .

For those who are unaware, it's more about reliability of that flow than the current output. A week or two of consistently high numbers will yield a drop in oil prices.

Markets are "discounting" machines.
The Brent November and December Futures Contracts aren't backing up your claim.
In fact, they are reflecting the opposite.

Are we surrendering soon? Wasn't that supposed to happen already according to you?

So instead of addressing my fundamental point about oil pricing, you're now deflecting?

Can't explain why Brent Crude oil is up $12 since August 26th with all of these Administration "claims" of oil moving through the Strait?

I'm not surprised.

They did address your claims

Yes, it's called CONTANGO.
That's been the structure of the oil market for this entire year.

If oil was flowing as freely as you, Oski, and the Trump Administration claim then the November contract would not be trading at such a big premium to the spot price. In fact, it would most likely be trading at a discount.

Instead, November is trading at nearly a $1.00 premium to the spot market.

You're stating that as fact. There are conflicting reports with many saying it was Iran that hit the wedding. The fragments were presented through Iranian media, so their location and chain of custody aren't independently established.

No confirmation either way and it wouldn't surprise me if we did hit the wedding, a comms facility was also hit nearby.

At this point you have to realize that the sources that have claimed that Iran bombed that wedding party were pure propaganda.

So much so that November Brent Crude is up $12.00 since August 26th.

Those numbers don't reflect the kind of normalization of Hormuz traffic that the Trump administration claimed. Oil prices in 2025 traded in the $60 range.

The fact that oil futures are nowhere near that range directly contradict the premise that Gulf oil traffic is opening up.

It's also clear that there are people here that don't understand what contango means.
And that this has been the structure of the oil market for the entire year.

I repeat: If oil was flowing freely again, the market would not be pricing November futures at a premium to spot.

That's just common sense.

Obviously the hope is that they go down even faster than that but it doesn't negate the point that was made that futures are trading lower than the current price meaning the markets are predicting the prices to go down, not up.
DiabloWags
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The CONTANGO structure of the oil futures market is nothing new.
Oil has been trading in CONTANGO for the entire year.

Moreover, why would Brent Crude Oil have rallied $12 in the last week or so if oil was moving as "freely" as the Trump Administration claims?

Common sense tells you that this is MISINFORMATION by the administration.

Again, if oil was flowing as freely thru the Strait as claimed, WTI would be trading back down at $70.
But it's not.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!
