that is true for ALL media sources now. The best a consumer can do is consume from multiple sources with different biases and try to find the truth. Who has time (or desire) to do that every day?

That's why I pay $1100 a year for the WSJ.

You pay $1100 for something you could get for free? That also doesn't solve the problem, WSJ is still doing what they can to keep your $1100 a year meaning they pander to their audience. It's all biased

Don't worry folks.
The Strait of Hormuz is OPEN.

"Seven commodity ships sailed along the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, just half the previous day's tally, data from ship-tracker Kpler showed. Prior to the Iran war, about one-fifth of global consumption moved through the waterway and 120 - 140 ships per day passed through the Strait."

DUBAIThe Trump administration says large volumes of oil are slipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The trackers whose job it is to count the world's oil shipments see much less.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said last week the U.S. military had helped ship over 15 million barrels of crude and oil products out of the waterway last Tuesday. He put the average oil exports through the strait over a seven-day period at more than 8 million barrels a day. Earlier this month, Wright said the seven-day average stood at around 9 million barrels a day.

The count from commercial ship trackers tells a different story, with estimates ranging from roughly 2 million to 6 million barrels a day. Industry figures on the amount of crude oil and oil products being loaded onto ships in the Persian Gulf and delivered to buyers don't corroborate the U.S. claims.

There are lots of reasons the numbers can diverge. Many ships are crossing the strait at night with their transponders off, making them hard to track by radio signal or satellite imagery. Big tankers can carry 2 million barrels apiece, so missing one or two can make all the difference. Measurement periods also make a big difference, as do assumptions about how full ships are when they cross.

Wright has said private data firms are undercounting ships that move covertly through the waterway. Still, a persistent gap remains between Washington's estimates and what the market can independently verify.

"What's remarkable is how similar tanker trackers' numbers are. You'd expect someone to have figured out a way to validate the White House numbers if there was a way," said Rory Johnston, founder of Commodity Context, an oil-market research firm. "As of yet, I haven't seen anyone do it."

"Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained at reduced levels," UKMTO said in its report. "Independent tracking data indicated suppression with single-digit numbers transiting in both directions."

Satellites can help identify ships at berths in the Gulf and then in areas beyond the strait where ship-to-ship transfers occur. But satellite imagery just captures points in time and isn't great for tracking the chokepoint itself, as it misses the bulk of the movements at night, she said.

Detecting a ship doesn't settle how many barrels moved. Analysts need to establish whether it was laden with oil or sailing empty. A very large crude carrier, or VLCC, is capable of holding roughly 2 million barrels, but that doesn't mean it is full.

The U.S. military has wider sources of information given its active presence around the Gulf, advanced sensors and communications with ships in transit.

"I can't get to 10 million barrels a day from the vessel and cargo picture available to me," said Arsenio Longo, the founder of Huax. "The military may well be seeing vessels through radar, aircraft or other surveillance that commercial feeds miss."

There is another way to check: Oil can't move through the strait if it isn't first put on tankers somewhere in the Persian Gulf. Those figures also don't line up with the U.S. transit claims.

LSEG puts crude and product loadings inside the Persian Gulf at about 4.4 million barrels a day in July and 1.9 million so far in August.

The data provider says Iraq, which lacks a major bypass route, loaded just 1.1 million barrels a day so far this month, less than a third of prewar levels, while Kuwait loaded 0.5 million, one-fifth of its prewar rate. Kuwaiti officials say they are exporting more, around 1 million barrels a day.

The ultimate check on Washington's numbers is whether the barrels ultimately surface somewhere. Even if tankers disappear while crossing Hormuz, much of that oil should eventually show up in data on barrels unloaded to buyers or middlemen.

So far, the U.S. government's claimed volumes aren't fully showing up in other countries' import volumes. According to LSEG data, an average of 11.6 million barrels per day of Middle Eastern crude and refined products have been or are scheduled to be discharged in Asia.

That number includes oil exports routed around Hormuz by pipeline, not just barrels escorted through the chokepoint.

By some estimates, China's crude oil reserves in 2025 were 600 million barrels bigger than those in the U.S.

MAGA!
Cal88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's a pretty low estimate, given that China's oil reserves are 1.3 billion barrels. That gap today is around 1 billion barrels.

China's effective oil reserve though is much higher than that, because they have built a large capacity of synthetic oil production from coal, which is economically viable at oil prices above $75 per barrel. Their coal consumption has been bonkers this year.

WHEN YOU ARE THE DUMBEST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY YOU HOLD A MEETING WITH REFINERY COMPANIES AND TELL THEM TO BOOST PRODUCTION.

NEVER MIND THAT THEY ARE ALREADY RUNNING NEARLY FLAT-OUT.

President Donald Trump pressed US oil refiners to boost domestic production of gasoline and diesel during a closed-door meeting Tuesday, as he contends with high prices and mounting cost-of-living concerns before November's midterm elections.

Trump made clear he wants lower gas prices at the pump for Americans and asked executives how to increase refining capacity, according to a White House official who provided details on condition of anonymity. The official said industry representatives were aligned with that goal and that the discussion touched on regulatory changes, faster permitting and additional investments.

The face-to-face pressure highlighted the political peril for a president who campaigned on reining in energy costs only to see them spiral amid the US war on Iran. US fuel prices are at the highest seasonal level ever with gasoline now fetching more than $4 a gallon and diesel nearly $6 a gallon on average nationwide, according to the American Automobile Association.

In return, Trump got an earful about federal biofuel-blending requirements, as some refining executives used the hour-long meeting to argue that quotas compelling them to mix alternative fuels into gasoline are raising pump prices, according to people familiar with the conversation who asked not to be named because it was private.

Roughly a dozen executives from fuel refining and distribution companies joined Trump in the White House Cabinet Room for the discussion, followed by a quick visit to the Oval Office, some of the people said. They reflected a who's who of industry, with leaders of smaller independent fuel makers such as Delek US Holdings Inc. alongside representatives from large refiners, including PBF Energy Inc., Marathon Petroleum Corp., and Valero Energy Corp.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who heads Trump's National Energy Dominance Council, were in the session alongside other officials.

The gathering was dominated by talk about the Renewable Fuel Standard, the federal law that compels refiners to blend corn-based ethanol, soy-based biodiesel and other alternative fuels into gasoline and diesel, people said. Industry representatives took aim at the administration's decision to set record-high biofuel-blending quotas, with some casting the targets as unattainable and describing them as driving up gasoline costs, some of the people said.

Tensions on the issue were heightened after Trump's Environmental Protection Agency on Monday granted a host of small refineries exemptions from some of those mandates. At the same time, in a blow to the owners of large refineries, the administration also said it would seek to ensure other, non-exempted facilities are on the hook to blend those waived volumes in their stead.

Related: Refiners Granted Highest Level of Biofuel Waivers Since 2017

Renewable fuel quotas are a particularly thorny subject for Trump, dividing the agriculture and oil industries, two key constituencies. Administration officials on Tuesday acknowledged the political dynamic in suggesting their hands were tied on the issue, some of the people said.

Trump convened the meeting as the Iran war continues to disrupt the flow of crude and refined petroleum products, feeding higher costs for gasoline and diesel. It's a pressing concern for Trump, who has struggled to allay voters' pocketbook concerns ahead of elections to determine which party controls Congress for the next two years.

While gasoline prices have fallen from this year's peak of more than $4.50 a gallon in May, they remain about $1 higher than at the Feb. 28 start of the war much less the $2.79 low Trump notched in January. Trump says prices will eventually ease and that Americans understand his stated aim of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He told reporters Monday he could not say with certainty prices would drop before the election.

After the meeting, Wright said he expected "downward pressure" on gas and diesel prices in the next few weeks. "We're doing everything we can to help them increase the production of gasoline and diesel," Wright told reporters in Caracas.
