Democrats, aided by Eric Holder, created a system where its very difficult to track fraud, including illegal immigrants voting record/ state computers linking to the DMV database. Previously, it was easy to identify illegal immigrants.

As far as I can tell, Sycasey is a poster with self-awareness and integrity. Therefore, I agree with you that his opinion is indeed valued here.

The thing is that crime is at historic lows. And despite Karen Bass spending most of the budget on police, she gets no credit for it. The Spencer Pratt-fueled narrative is that crime became worse under her.

But if you reduce the police budget, then the LAPD complains and they will make you look horrible. Because they have the power to make you look horrible.

Crime stats go down when you don't arrest criminals, write reports, or fund prisons. Newsom plans to close another prison.

To repeat: Los Angeles' homicide rate in 2025 was lower than any year of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and any previous year of the 2020s.

That's why Karen Bass got so many votes, despite being unpopular. A lot of parts of L.A. knew how bad it used to be and could feel the difference.

The last full year that L.A. had a Republican mayor, the city's homicide rate was 14.75 per 100,000 people.

Last year, it was 5.9 per 100,000 people.

Bass took office in December 2022.

In 2022, L.A.'s homicide rate was 10.2 per 100,000 people.

In 2012, L.A.'s homicide rate was 7.75 per 100,000 people.

In 2002, L.A.'s homicide rate was 17.3 per 100,000 people.

In 1992, L.A.'s homicide rate was 31.6 per 100,000 people.

In 1982, L.A.'s homicide rate was 28 per 100,000 people.

In 1972, L.A.'s homicide rate was 13.6 per 100,000 people.

Homicide statistics are one thing, reporting on crime and what's constituted as a felony vs. misdemeanor are another.

Citizens, particularly crime victims, their families, business owners, and residents have repeatedly and publicly complained about felonies being treated as misdemeanors, reduced, or dismissed in Los Angeles County. We've seen these videos all over X.

These complaints were a major driver of political backlash against former DA George Gascon (2020-2024) who served two years under Karen Bass.

George Gascon didn't serve under Karen Bass. The DA is an elected office. So he didn't work for her.

The homicide rate is reflective of the crime rate. Dealing with fewer homicides is always better than dealing with more homicides. Is it any coincidence that when Los Angeles had a surge in homicides in the 80s and 90s, they ended up having mediocre detectives working on the O.J. Simpson case?

And in 2016/17 it was around 7 and in 2018 and 2019 the homicide rate averaged under 6 per 100,000 people. It has been low for a long time. There was a pandemic spike in 2020, 21, and 22. This trend wasn't unique to Los Angeles.

Modern technology has made it A LOT harder for criminals to get away with murder. The homicide rate has been trending down this Century with the exception of a 3 year pandemic spike in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

As for overall crime, try calling LAPD if your bike is stolen or something is stolen from your car. They will not come by. They will direct you to a website to fill out a police report. You may or may not get a follow up. Making it harder for police reports to be filed significantly mutes crime reporting.

The homicide rate was above 6 in 2018 and 2019.

Los Angeles homicides in 2025: 230. Population in 2025: 3,869,089 = 5.9 homicide rate.

Los Angeles homicides in 2019: 253: Population in 2020: 3,899,342 = 6.5 homicide rate

And the point is that the homicide rate is at its lowest since the 1950s, during an "idealized" version of Los Angeles. Not that it's at the same level from just before the pandemic.

2024 - it was 7.0 per 100,000 people.
2025 - it was 5.9 per 100,000 people.

Nationwide we had a 20% drop in homicides as the Trump Administration took huge numbers of felons off the street, closed the border, and deported hardened cartel members.

Thank you, President Trump.
