I think it's funny that there are Trump fans who actually find credibility in him.

His tweets about the economy have been proven to be bogus and clearly show that he has no idea what he's talking about. I just find it funny that he's been held in such high regard here by a number of posters.

As you know, he is a college drop out.

Nobody has posted about him here lately except you. Your fixation is what's funny.

Yes we know he's a college dropout and that means absolutely nothing to me. You can define yourself by your degree but most people in the real world don't.

What do you find in his background gives him credibility when it comes to discussing economic principles?

You seem to spend way more time thinking and getting to know his backstory than anyone else so I have faith you can answer that yourself.

No deflection and 100% good faith on my part. I don't know Amuse's backstory because I don't care nor do I spend time thinking about him. You do which is why I assumed you know more about the subject than me. You're the one bringing him up repeatedly out of nowhere, not me.

Retail Sales Drop Most in a Year in July

We are definitely the "hottest country in the world" right now. Just ask the delusional clown in the White House.

I would say that we are the dumbest country in the world.

"We" voted a moron into the White House who has cost the American consumer a great deal with his tariffs, inflation, lack of fiscal restraint, and a war of choice.

He is without a doubt, the dumbest U.S. president in my lifetime.

Yup, we're running so hot that bond yields are going to the MOON.

30 year at 5.23%

10 year at 4.74%

10 year yield sure looks like it's in a BULL market!

Bit of a reversal intra-day after getting as high as 4.746

A massive move up from 3.95

Clearly not good for mortgage rates and the housing market.

MAGA !!!

The Fed has been quietly engaged in QE to help Trump's flaccid econony since the beginning of this year. Of course, QE has a tarnished name so the Fed has renamed it "Reserve Management Purchases". The corporate media dutifully follows along and the Fed balance sheet (which was reduced from $9 trillion to $6.75 trillion during Biden's strong economy) has increased from $6.5 trillion $6.75 trillion this year.

The hedge fund community has clearly taken advantage of the Fed's Repo Facility and leaned heavily on it to finance their leveraged positions.

The Fed has essentially "backstopped" these market participants and in a most convoluted way, encouraged even more leverage with a facility that was supposed to be solely used during "events" of market stress.

The increase in Treasury exposure since 2023 has been MASSIVE.
It has literally doubled since 2023.

Largely financed by hedge funds repo cash borrowing.

Massive positions trying to eke out small gains.

Stunning!

The top panels of Figure 1 show that hedge funds' gross U.S. Treasury exposures reached $4.0 trillion as of September 2025, comprising $2.4 trillion in long exposure and $1.6 trillion in short exposure. To finance these positions and source securities for shorting, hedge funds rely heavily on repo markets.

Hedge funds' repo cash borrowing has grown to $3.0 trillion as of September 2025. The scale of this expansion is striking: since the beginning of 2023, hedge funds' gross Treasury exposures, repo borrowing levels, and monthly turnover in Treasury markets have all more than doubled. Moreover, their Treasury activities have become increasingly concentrated, with the 50 largest funds by gross Treasury exposures accounting for approximately 90 percent of the total, up from 84 percent at the beginning of 2023.

If I understand this correctly, the Fed is providing the leverage for a small number of market participants to buy up massive amounts of U.S. debt?

Wouldn't our economy be far more stable if we just taxed these parasites and reduced our debt and reduced the financial instability they are creating? But the fiscal conservatives would never support it.

Trump and the fiscal conservatives are bringing us closer to MMT. The Treasury is intervening in the long term Treasury market, buying up long term Treasuries to stop the rate spike they created from fiscal conservatives giving us endless debt over 45 years. Presumably this is done from borrowing at the short term though their press release didn't mention this. The next step fiscal conservative policy will force us into is just printing money and buying the debt, which is MMT.

In fact, the WSJ had an article about this just yesterday about how Central Banks like the FED have become market makers of last resort and (accidentally) subsidizing government borrowing.

I'm curious to see what others think of this "activity".
Especially Trump fans who are knowledgeable about the FED and the Treasury market.
