Neither Miller or Maher are funny because they are full of themselves and their opinions. Let's face it: most performers who opine about politics are embarassingly dumb be it Sean Penn or Dennis Miller. Chris Rock is funny. Jon Stewart is funny because his opinions aren't what is funny; it is the opinions he is skewering that are funny.

I believe the number of atheists in America is somewhere between 10-15 percent. That's larger than the Jewish American population. It's not an organized group, why should it be? Do people waste time organizing against people who believe that Elvis is still alive, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? Unfornately, during the Bush part deux era, the religious right got to have their POW implemented more than they rationally deserved(ie, let's teach BS creationism to our kids). So thus there's been a backlash, including comedic critique. Of course, those who are religious won't find it comedic.

What irritates the hell out of me, is that the "Religious Right" is a very narrow segment of religious individuals yet it is brought up by most people who want to criticize religion and lump all religious individuals into the same camp.
Yes there is bigotry against the atheists in some segments of the population. But there has been bigotry against Catholics and Jews. [Until Kennedy a Catholic could not be elected president. I am not sure about Jews except for Lieberman's run at VP.] There is still bigotry against Muslims and Mormons.

One might say that the bigotry against the non-Protestant religious has been more severe than the bigotry against the atheists. The guys running around with white sheets and white pointy masks, actually killed Catholics and Jews and others also killed Mormons in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Maher is free to say what he wants. And maybe he is just trying to make a point. But in doing so he appears just as ignorant and bigoted as the Religious Right [which as has been said is not truly "religious" nor "right" (as in "correct")] which he purports to hate.

Bill Maher who is a comedian and is really just using the stupidity of people he has very little respect for as the butt of his jokes, while at the same time inviting people like Darryl Issa and other far right Republicans onto his show to at least defend their positions OR Bill O'Reilly interviewing the President of the United States and interrupting him and lecturing him and basically showing zero respect for either the man OR the office?

Seems pretty straight forward to me as to who is a bothersome little piece of sh*t on the fabric of the nation, versus a guy who take a few pot shots at these same morons!

When Bill O'Reilly says this about our President, then I'll agree he is worse then Maher...until then, Maher pretty much is the bigger horse's a$$

You may think that is funny but I don't think anyone should be saying that about the President, conservative or liberal just for some laughs....it makes him look like the bigger dip$hit

If my eyes were rolling any further they would be in the back of my head. Seriously, you're offended by political humor?

Not political humor....insulting the POTUS in that away...I can tell you are much younger than me....I don't mind 99% of political humor and I don't mind anyone challenging the POTUS but insulting him like that...well, let's just say, this is the part where I say, "I wasn't raised that way".... to me the office is something more...including the man.... even if you disagree with him 100%...besides, you're showing your stripes..you didn't seem to question BearsLair about his interview with Obama,,so I take it you think a tough interview is worse then someone calling the POTUS a retard...boy, I really was raised in a different time......

He's a comic. Insulting people for laughs is what he does, I don't care who the target is. I think you're being overly sanctimonious here.

Edit: Bill O'Reilly is not a comedian, and the context was a supposedly serious interview. I fail to see the equivalence.

Sanctimonious means holier then thou...I'm not saying I'm better than anyone at all......doesn't matter that he is a comedian, especially considering he uses his comedy for political discourse..he always has...if he was like Lewis Black or someone who actually insults these people in stand up, I'd maybe agree, but he uses his comedy as a shield to provide commentary..... that is different... that is how I see it...so I posted such.... There are plenty of people who find him offensive, probably the majority of America..that is why he is no longer on ABC and on HBO...because he can do this stuff without getting the flack.....and again, I'm not pious about it as you suggest... I just see it differently...

Oh, and I get insulting someone....like SNL does etc....I have never minded anyone poking fun at the Pres...for instance, I didn't like Bush all that much but he was the Pres...so when they abused him about "nuculer" or his inarticulate speech, I thought it was funny... or when they poke fun at Obama for his mannerism, it is funny..I just draw the line personally at personal attacks that are that degrading and insulting...a matter of degree for me

Atheists endure a different kind of bigotry. If you don't think so, realize that one will never be elected president, then consider the reasons.

Because the vast majority of this country doesn't agree with their opinions. That's not bigotry.

Dennis Miller is a boorish redneck. His brief stint on Monday Night Football was a disaster. What were they thinking when they signed him on? That's when I stopped watching MNF regularly and took back my Monday nights.

Dennis Miller a redneck? He's from Philly! Just because he uses common sense logic that you disagree with? Wow!

Replace atheism with Catholicism or Mormonism. Still cool with it?

This is the essence of the problem. If it's atheism, it's just somebody's "opinion", easily dismissed. But if it's a religion, it's their "faith", and it's bigotry to discriminate against it.

i haven't read anyones posts fully just got the gist

anyone that get's angry with someone making fun of the president because they don't think they are doing something wrong
is a lot more pointed towards a patriot than someone hurting the system

true patriots were the ones that challenged their system, asked questions, didn't take status quo

hahah
i really hope my vicodin didn't just speak
