Bill Maher said on Real Time tonight that "Hosni Mubarak was the Brett Favre of Egypt...first he's quitting than he's not, then he is!'

That and that one of the Egyptian women was so excited that she was going to let her husband "do it to her in Tahrir tonight..."

Pretty funny monologue, if you ask me.

Prob not so much, he's just not funny is all. And if you don't think he is funny then he comes across as kinda slimy and full of himself.

That's it GB.....You nailed it. I'm not political but I do find Dennis Miller miles ahead of Maher in wit. But he's funny no matter what the subject matter.

Dennis Miller is a boorish redneck. His brief stint on Monday Night Football was a disaster. What were they thinking when they signed him on? That's when I stopped watching MNF regularly and took back my Monday nights.

Agree. I liked him more a number of years ago. Now although he sometimes has some great material (like the Brett Farve items) overall I find him too preachy and full of himself.

Agree. While I think that Maher has gone down hill. IMO Miller was NEVER any good.

Miller has different writers now. Rick Overton used to write for him (back when he did stand-up on a regular basis) and he was hilarious!

Now Miller is not that funny - but Overton still is!

Actually I find that makes his jokes even funnier, especially when he goes on hyperbolic rants against religion. If you can't tell that's just part of his shtick then I don't know what to say

Louis C.K. is a riot...

Lewis Black is hilarious...
yeah, he'll rip on conservative and religion but he doesn't do it exclusively like Maher...I think Maher is a jerk off but I love Lewis Black who equally beats up some of the same groups...

My son saw him at Cobb's on Thursday night and said he was so funny that he almost ****ed in his pants. Chappelle's skits are the best I have ever seen. I think Louis C.K. can be very funny. I think Maher is smart and very clever, but not as funny as Chappelle. The part that bugs me about Maher is that he is a proselytizing atheist--and that really ****es me off. I think his show Real Time is great. I think Dennis Miller comes off as a bitter, disgruntled terminated employee just like Bernie Goldberg does.

Yea, I really really really need to catch one of his shows @ Cobbs when he is in town.

Still don't know exactly why he turned down $60m to continue his Chapelle's show.

That was the one show that EVERYONE in college would get together and watch (guys and girls). If you missed it, you won't understand 95% of the conversations you would hear during the week.

Never heard of C.K. A quick look at his bit makes me think of George Carlin, but not as good.

Lewis Black is hilarious. Seen him once live. Funny as hell.

Jay Leno, Dave Letterman, George Lopez, Tina Fey, Eddie Murphy.
Is that enough for your triangulation.
So that my opinion may be considered "worthy" or "useful".

I thought Miller was great as an anchor on SNL. Never saw him anywhere else where I thought he was funny.

Maher is sometimes very funny and sometimes very not, IMO. But the bottom line is Maher is very opinionated in his comedy, and I would think if you were too far away from his opinion, much of his humor would be hard to find funny. I would guess that Maher would not be that broken up about conservatives not enjoying his humor.

Now John Stewart runs circles around both of them both as a comedian in general and as a supposed "cerebral" comic.

I don't know exactly what to think of Maher as a person. He is definitely anti-religion and makes no bones about it, and clearly is happy to go out of his way to insult religion, which I think is normally a jerky maneuver, but I think he is trying to be a jerk about it to make a point. I think he feels that a lot of religious people are free to insult atheism with impunity and he is playing tit for tat to say "you don't like it, I don't either.". He also point blank says that statistics show that atheists make up one of the largest "religious groups" but are afraid to say anything. I think he is essentially trying to adapt the "We're here! We're Queer!" strategy of the old gay rights movement to get the atheist viewpoint more vocal.

I agree that he goes out of his way to insult anyone who is religious.
But I do not see how people insult atheism or insult people who are atheists.
It has been a long time since any atheists were burned at the stake or criticized for being atheists except by a small segment of the Christian Conservatives or Muslin extremists. But that segment also criticizes Catholics and Jews.

Atheists endure a different kind of bigotry. If you don't think so, realize that one will never be elected president, then consider the reasons.

There may have been several already elected president.
Think Thomas Jefferson and Geo Washington and (perhaps) Abe Lincoln.

I believe the number of atheists in America is somewhere between 10-15 percent. That's larger than the Jewish American population. It's not an organized group, why should it be? Do people waste time organizing against people who believe that Elvis is still alive, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? Unfornately, during the Bush part deux era, the religious right got to have their POW implemented more than they rationally deserved(ie, let's teach BS creationism to our kids). So thus there's been a backlash, including comedic critique. Of course, those who are religious won't find it comedic.

Little doubt several of the forty-some-odd just gave lip service to religion. Modern examples might include Reagan, Clinton and Obama.

Carter is probably a true believer. Even a cynic like myself could hardly conceive of Bush II being sooooo Machiavellian that he feigned piety just as a political means-to-an-end, so I'll leave him in the Carter camp.
