The Dodgers losing might be better for them in the long run. They can point to the fact that a smaller market team beat them/won the WS, even better if the Rays win the whole thing. I'm mostly being sarcastic.

There's likely going to be a lockout because neither side wants to budge on the salary cap issue. Baseball needs a cap but they've let it go without one for so long that I don't see how they realistically get the players to agree to one. I've soured on baseball over the years due to a combo of FJF and Oakland's ineptitude but the playoffs are always fun.

Not really if you know the whole story. This guy had been going to games his whole life and never caught a foul ball before.

OMG I agree with BS88. You get a foul ball and it's yours. You definitely dont give it to a fan of the other team.

Is it a problem? The teams still playing have the 2nd, 19th, 25th, and 30th highest payroll. I don't support efforts to move more profits to owners and away from players.

Yes, for broader reasons you want people to believe there is some degree of competitive balance.

I grew up hearing the golden age of baseball was the 1950s when the World Series was dominated by New York teams, presumably because of higher payrolls. Nobody cares about that stuff. College football is proof.

Agreed.

The luxury tax paid by the Dodgers of $180 million is more than the payrolls of the other 3 playoff teams.

The economics of Baseball are broken.

What you just posted shows high payrolls are not predictive of postseason success. Look at the Mets.

They are ballooning year after year. I want to be clear, I do not support just giving owners more money either. I'm not sure what the solution is, maybe something like football has but it'll be near impossible to get players to agree at this point. And I don't blame them.

The proposals are to have a salary cap with a salary floor, to help balance things and force the cheapskate owners to spend more at the bottom. People can agree or disagree with that, but there is at least some attempt to prevent this from just being more money for owners.

But will the players ever agree to that? From what I've read, no even with the most recent concessions floated like a 154 game schedule and off days every Monday for all but two teams all season long.

Definitely a solid core that won't start hitting free agency for the next few years. I'd say this season is the start of their three year window before they will have to start dishing out too many big contracts. All this assuming these guys continue to perform and that's not a given in professional sports.

Brewers are estimated to have the highest increase in arbitration costs next season. The Brewers have 16 arbitration eligible players, with 14 projected to receive contracts. Brice Turang alone is projected to receive a $6.2 million raise, while Trevor Megill and William Contreras could each receive increases exceeding $3 million.
