Family wedding, and my cousin who always posts MAGA yahoo nonsense is coming and will stay with me. I told him I'd get started knitting him a pink pushy hat so he doesn't forget where to grab his wife when he gets back home.
I'd like your suggestions and advice for fun activities we can all play together.

"Pin the tail on the donkey", with faces of the 20-odd Democrat candidates on the board.

"Pin the tail on the jackass", with it just being a photo of trump.

Quiz show: faces of all the fired and not yet fired staffers, and each person has to try and list the order in which they were let go, and bonus points given for those indicted and/or convicted of crimes.

I'm sure there are a ton of other fun we could have getting reacquainted, and I'm hoping you, my friends, can help me line it all up for him.

If I don't start knitting soon, i could order one of these to take it's place as his welcoming hat.

You could play "Hide the Mueller Report." Hide it somewhere in the house, and whoever finds it just tells everyone else what it says and everyone has to believe them.

Maybe I should stop by here and pick up some help on the way back from the airport.

And play "Whatabout." So if anyone has a complaint or doesn't like something at the party, rather than addressing that complaint or trying to make things better, everyone simply accuses someone else at the party of something worse.

I'd do it as a joke or sorts, like all the visiting relatives get a small gift or gift baskets...but the Trumpie cousin gets the pink p*ssy hat, some tie-dye and a Nancy Pelosi signed autograph.

Or get everyone basically the same stuff, a "Cali special"; p&ssy hat, tie-dye, wine...just leave something extra for the cousin. Given he's a guy, a Stormy Daniels video and/or a playboy with the playmate...with a goofy, snarky note like, "Hey cous...good thing you have regular size fingers!"

See, I can't do that with my Trumpie aunt.

Heck, why not try to "flip" him or help him see the light. I have no idea how but humor often bridges things: critique but less harsh then simply chasing him around. A little charity and family love can go a long way. Of course it could be pointless. The Mayor Pete and Stormy stuff might work.

There's no way he will flip. He's all into calling us "libtards" and ending posts with #MAGA, and his wife is always posting critical and religious stuff.

I'm not actually going to rub him the wrong way. If I went down there and they did that to me, I'd not find it a fun place to be. I have already put off one trip for this reason. I think Trump supporters are idiots, and they are not just republicans, but extremely biased and come across as intellectually uncritical. They are lost. Brainwashed. It's a cultural thing. No college. Blue collar work, church, Texas, near the border.

I don't know what else to make of it. Part of this nation simply seems lost.

For democracy to work, we need everyone to vote, everyone to have all the knowledge of the candidates and issues ( in stock market trading, we call that "perfect information", which leads to an efficient market, fair prices), and for people to act/choose/VOTE RATIONALLY.

Unfortunately, none of those 3 things exist. Thus, "Democracy" is still imperfect and a theory. That's the conclusion I've come to.

Okay, gotcha. I figured as much you weren't going to razz him. In that case, I'd be an extra nice and gracious host, charm offensive and maybe he might see/get something but otherwise, show him a good California time and keep the peace. You can't lose that way. I know the drill, my aunt is a Trumpie.

Last minute, he changed plans and will be staying at a hotel.
I'm not sure if it's fair to attribute it to my recent Facebook post highlighting how trump lied about china paying for Chinese tariffs.
China isn't paying. American importing companies are paying, and that amount is passed on to us, American consumers. It's just another mischaracterization to fool a feeble electorate who can't think or understand things on their own. Lies and propaganda.





Still, it will be good to see him. I'll report back if we have any discussions about it. I doubt either of us will bring it up.

In fairness to Trump this may not be a lie. I don't think he has taken the 5 minutes it would take to explain how tariffs work to a person of ordinary intelligence to actually learn that tariffs aren't paid for by the exporters. Also it is likely the case that the burden has been shared in part by a decrease in price by the exporters and in part by an increase in price here. Without more information (which Trump has no interest in and in fact has prevented economists working for the administration from publicizing) we won't know exactly how much.
