It's an unpopular perspective for sure, but I have a lot of conviction I"m seeing this one more clearly than others.

Ultimately, I ask others for consistency with their moral compass applied objectively and without pride or prejudice. I find that when we truly uphold equality in the way we frequently virtue signal about, the moral conclusions derived from them don't please us at all.

I don't like the idea of my teenage daughter having sex with anybody. But I don't see the moral logic in our ambivalence about teens having sex with teens (consensual) but as soon as somebody turns 18 it's a moral calamity? Why?

If my 15 yo daughter decided to consent to blow her History teacher -- whatever the reason -- the behavior of the teacher is inappropriate professionally but I don't see how my daughter is not culpable here.

She's not going to be able to come home crying to mom and dad when she, being 15 and not 9, was fully aware of her actions. Teacher is still guilty of rape by statute. Is he a monster? Did he hurt or violate anybody?

Two 10 years olds can get into a fight and it is not a crime. A 50 year old beating up a 10 year old is. Adults are supposed to be protectors and allow kids as much as possible to retain their potential and not destroy that for sexual gratification. And while a 15 year old may have "consented", I would question that consent in the same way I would question a consent by a 9 year old. While there is nothing magical about 18, it is just an arbitrary age we had to choose (some may say too young) for women and men to make a decision about their bodies. But why is 15 OK and not 9. The only answer to me is that it is wrong in both and reprehensible in both.

They exploited each other. In retrospect, many of these women feel like it was an exchange the shouldn't have had to make, or now makes them feel used and manipulated. I observe a tangible -- legal and moral -- discernment between a 9 year old (prepubescent) and a 15 year old.

A 10 year old can be charged with crime for violating their peers (such as murder). A 50 year old can't beat up a 10 year old not because of age per se, but because that age difference reflects a massive difference in physical prowess. But Peter Dinklage can defend himself against a rowdy 13 year old who is 3x his size.
