I'm interested in this because while I can see flaws in many of the candidates and am largely ambivalent about which one I want to win as any of them won't be Trump, I haven't really identified one that I'm totally onboard with. I'd be interested in hearing reasons why people are favoring a certain candidate over another (don't just say "I'm voting for x" without explaining x's appeal.

I kinda am rooting for Amy, but I'm not sure she's got what it takes. She's being another also-ran.

Harris
Explanation: she is non-doctrinal, she spends a lot of time developing positions that are complex, like the issue themselves, I like her extension of Medicare and regulation of drug prices (been to Canada lately?), she would address climate change, but would not accept many of the controversial features of the Green New Deal and is (that won't pass) and is willing to admit that, and will focus on improving relations with allies. Likely some tax changes and less military spending to reduce budget deficit.

Warren. She has run the best campaign and I think Democrats need to plant a flag squarely on the left in response to the Republicans' ridiculous extremism people need something to vote FOR, not just AGAINST. I believe Warren is a better vehicle for this than Bernie.

And yes, I realize she won't be able to get everything she wants. The point is to have someone who will fight for it.

Harris:

"I am black and I am proud of itI was born black and I'll die black and I am proud of it. And I am not gonna make any excuses for it, for anybody, because they don't understand."

I think that addresses it very directly. If some group wants to claim to be the arbiter of blackness and exclude her and Obama, it sounds a lot like racism and identity politics in the extreme to me. And I don't think that group will get much support. Seems crazy to me for any black voters to vote for a white candidate because they resent a half Jamaican candidate who grew up facing all the same prejudices as if her father had been descendant from slaves. Up to them I guess.

And I'm not voting against a candidate because conservatives want to s l u t shame them.

This took a five second Google search.

https://www.mediamatters.org/4chan/what-know-about-ados-group-targeting-black-progressives

Quote:

There is evidence that ADOS is advancing a right-wing agenda, and while it calls itself progressive, it pushes pro-Trump, anti-immigrant views. ADOS co-founder Yvette Carnell is a board member of right-wing front group Progressives for Immigration Reform (PFIR). PFIR -- which despite its name pushes an anti-immigrant agenda -- has ties to Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), an extremist group run by white nationalist John Tanton. Carnell has claimed that PFIR is a bona fide progressive group despite its anti-immigrant approach. Carnell also uploaded a video to YouTube praising Donald Trump, but deleted it after it began to receive scrutiny from progressive activists, according to a discussion on YouTube channel New Possibilities.

My last comment is not about ADOS. It is about your comment on Willie Brown. If conservatives want to s l u t shame her about her relationship with Brown, that is there problem.

Regarding identity politics, yeah that is my take. I think their argument against her is disgusting and indefensible. Maybe try defending the actual argument instead of contributing one line "mmmm. kay" and "personal perspective" posts with no substance. I'm here ready to listen to an argument to change my mind. Keep in mind, I'm a liberal. What I don't like is fake liberal groups or dumbass liberal groups who just try to take other liberals down. Giving conservatives fodder to call her and Obama "not black enough" is disgraceful.

If there's anyone to blame here, it's Willie Brown. What can I say, I knew a couple guys who worked for Willie as aides. One got an appointment in the Obama admin. One common interest: womanizing and doghood. Not malicious or the modern youngsters with the pickup artist crap but none-the-less their main hobby. Of course the guy who got the appointment ended up having 4 girls and no boys. Funny how karma works.

Just watched CO Senator Michael Bennett on CBS/Major Garrett's "The Takeout". Neat guy!!!! I'd vote for that. Pair with Amy Klobuchar as a moderate pragmatic Dem ticket.

Not sure what you're trying to suggest about daughters and karma.

I don't mind the input of ex-Republicans. It's the current Republicans that I don't need to hear from.

Even though moderate corporate-loving Democrats don't move the needle for me, I can see the appeal for certain people.

Please tell me why that is amusing to you?
No, really. Please explain.

I've read countless times on these pages how if Dems swing too far left in an effort to win over the left most wing of the Democratic Party, they will ostracize themselves from the Moderates in this county who may, in turn, sit out the election, or outright vote their perceived pocketbook interests (like Wife/WIAF).
I've read countless times on these pages how Dems should, rather, nominate moderates to assure themselves of the election. This is precisely why everyone has been flocking to Biden!
Granted, Bennet/Klobuchar are not household names. But it may not actually take a household name to defeat Trump. Just someone who can come off as competent, experienced, not too old and not too young, and not radically too far left.

So, tell me, why is that such a cause for amusement?

Al Gore
John Kerry
Hillary Clinton

All competent, experienced, not too old or too young, not radically too far left

All lost to opponents less competent and and experienced

The motivational aspirational inspirational candidates Clinton and Obama won

Klobuchar is about as exciting as a rainy afternoon. Even Coloradans I know have no idea why Bennett ran in the first place. Kamala "we can have a conversation" Harris isn't going to motivate people.

It's time for fire and brimstone. Torches and pitchforks. Buy guillotine futures. A reckoning is coming. Warren is going to drag this country kicking and screaming into the 21 century, and even WIAF will be happy about it in ten years, if he doesn't hurl himself off a ledge in a manic fit of pocketbook despair next November 8

Once it was disclosed Klobuchar had an anger/mistreatment problem with her staff, I knew she couldn't win the nomination. Not after the eating a salad with a comb fit. In the Kavanuagh hearing she was bright and understanding with a big dose of Midwestern charm...but nope, she wasn't going to get the nom after the staff issues were revealed. A man might be able to survive that but not a woman with the double standard.

Warren really does strike the balance between hard-nosed, smart, policy wonk, progressive but also friendly to capitalism. Yes she wants to reform the sleaze in the latest version of capitalism but that actually might be good for capitalism. Otherwise it's full socialism...well not really. Just enough to creep out the old GOP and make them crap their pants in anger.

The thing is that Warren had her own version of the Klobuchar thing with the Native American blood test. There's a reason one has gained support while the other has run in place, and it has to do with superior campaign and message.

Well there's slight difference. Warren was attacked by Trump, even as it turns out she has little or no NA blood. She did addressed things in a forthright manner, although Native Americans are understandably still not thrilled. Klobuchar was different, there was really no way out except to acknowledge and say work can be tough. Agree Warren is running a strong campaign.
