LOL the jealous Gen Xers on this board who missed the cut to be Awesome Baby Boomers by 5-10 years and now pretend like they don't know damn well that Boomers would be known as The Greatest Generation, if only that weren't already taken.
If "The Greatest" means being the ones who took every scrap of savings and investment from all the prior generations, consumed it for themselves and then decided it wasn't enough and they needed to borrow trillions from their children and grandchildren, then yes the Boomers are the greatest.Big C said:

Everybody younger than Baby Boomers:
a) Don't you feel like simple souls because it is so easy to estimate your age, just by your opinion on this?
b) Aren't you embarrassed to not have a sense of humor about anything that might have the least bit to do with you?
c) Aren't you afraid that your envy of others' obvious virtue might consume you?
Regarding "Baby Boomers", I should've qualified: It's Late Baby Boomers who are really the Most Awesome Generation. Early Boomers (and even "mid-Boomers) are the ones who give the rest of us a bad name. Those effing hippies can suck it.
OK Boomer! (We love the attention. It's like when Chase Garbers hears the boos on the road. It's an acknowledgement of our greatness.)

Yeah, Not a big fan of hippies in your generation. First clue that people grow out of their poser liberal beliefs when they actually have something to lose. Didn't take long from free love to it's all about me. My generation had to navigate marketing of greed, society feeding our insecurities, lack of parental guidance, absence of participation trophies, no easy access to data, and pollution to create the new technological revolution and wealth (at least for some) through hard work and not taking anything for granted. I was giving up on future generation based on how delusional millennials are, always playing the victim card and blaming others for their failures while demanding their Starbucks coffee but Generation Z with their renewed
sense of hard work and community gives me hope. If COVID-19 doesn't destroy the economy for them, I think they will be our best generation yet.

Anybody that categorizes the entirety of a generation within a sweeping statement or two is generally wrong.
Every generation is the same, filled with some people that are selfish, some people that give back, some people that are driven, some people that are lost, etc. There is no one narrative for any one generation. People say the depression/WWII generation was the greatest, well what about the antiwar protesters, are they included, what about the McCarthy witch hunts? Generations, like life, are never clear and always muddled together.

Genuinely curious to see if BearGoggles has changed his view on Orange County's response to COVID and whether they should have been allowed to reopen sooner. Based on what I'm seeing from the LA Times and elsewhere, Orange County may not be the best place to live in terms of COVID risk.BearGoggles said:Orange County has around 3.2M people and around 82 deaths/4000 cases. In terms of cases/deaths per 100,000 of population, OC has very little covid. That is what I was referring to. It was you saying OC has virtually no Covid. Turns out just in the last 24 hours there are 158 reported cases, per the link you posted. So who is moving the goal post?

In the Bay Area:
SFO 800,000 people /2026 cases /36 deaths
Alameda 1.67M/2300/82
Santa Clara 2M/2400/135
San Mateo 730,000/1575/66
Contra Costa 1.15M/1100/33
If you were picking one of these areas to live in, where would you live if COVID risk was your only concern?
In So Cal populated areas, far and away OC is the place to live in terms of COVID risk. And to my larger point, there is literally no reason OC should not reopen with precautions at an accelerated rate, without absurd requirements like "no covid deaths for 14 days."
The problem is not that Orange County opened too soon. The problem, as it is everywhere, is mask use.Unit2Sucks said:Genuinely curious to see if BearGoggles has changed his view on Orange County's response to COVID and whether they should have been allowed to reopen sooner. So she's not going to let that level of attention go without a fight.
Quote:
Conclusion
Our analysis documents the relationship between the timing of states' reopening and health outcomes (Covid-19 cases and deaths) and consumer responses (mobility and business revenues). Relative to states that reopened later, early reopening states experienced a faster recovery of business activity in the short termfor example, increased mobility in reopened states is reflected in increased consumer spending at restaurants. However, these gains may have come at the expense of an eventual increase in Covid-19 cases and deaths. The recent resurgence in Covid-19 cases, particularly in early reopening states, appears to have stalled or reversed this trend in both mobility and consumer spending.
