I'm in double lockdown (like double secret probation): County Shelter in Place Order wrapped in a City of Walnut Creek curfew.....I'm going for the Hat Trick when my wife restricts my sleeping privileges to the couch.

I have to start by saying that I of course don't condone anyone who shows up with violent intentions and/or commits violence or engages in destruction of property.

I won't say there were fine people on both sides because that's BS - there were many good faith protesters and there were many bad faith criminals. I can't say how many were antifa, white nationalist or other extremist groups, but clearly there were people who had no connection to the George Floyd protests against police brutality and were using them as cover for their lawlessness or in order to tarnish the peaceful protestors. It's pretty clear that the externalities created by COVID (mass unemployment, millions sick, 100k+ dead, all of these impacts felt more heavily by poor minority communities) have contributed to a volatile situation which have put people on edge. And of course, many people have been forced to forgo haircuts for weeks on end, as LMK5 and others have pointed out numerous times.

Given that we are fighting a pandemic, I think people should obey the various curfews and other rules in effect and hope that the maskless protestors don't spread COVID. The worse our compliance, the worse our outcomes have been and are likely to continue to be. I guess we're really testing with these protests how likely outdoor transmission is. I suspect that we will see spikes but that was going to happen anyway because things are opening up and discipline is waning. The warm weather does appear to have helped reduce transmission so we have that in our favor and I have to say from what I've seen on TV the mask compliance was pretty good.

I hope that the protests end soon and that someone (maybe Obama?) is able to make a public statement that can quiet nerves. With the rhetoric coming out of the white house (both exhorting the frustrated protestors who stormed government buildings while armed to the teeth a few weeks back and now threatening frustrated protestors with the use of military force), it appears we need someone else to be the voice of caution.

The one thing that is heartening is that there has been more or less across the board, bipartisan and unequivocal disapproval of the murder of George Floyd.

Come on down to LA and be on lockdown through out the entire County starting at 6 tonight. Was driving up to 6Bear6 for a socially spaced outdoor dinner and had to do a u turn. Wife was all dolled-up, so I don't think it is the couch yet.

I would think you would appreciate a freedom delivered by a democrat mayor. That is the lens through which you evaluate everything, is it not?

Home delivery of cocktails is one of the few benefits of SIP, I mean other than preventing millions of deaths (according to Trump).

For what it's worth, I haven't had a drink. I spent the day at home with my young children, as I have every day for the last 12 weeks or so. I managed to survive yet another day without a haircut proving that what appears to be your biggest challenge is in fact surmountable, even if you not fell the need to weapon up and storm the capitol.

What do you call the type of cognitive dissonance and solipsism that virtue signals at the expense of violence and crumbling cities as you sit in safety far, far away from it all? The terror is not at their front door, or their business, destroying life's work.

When protesters become rioters and terrorists, what is the leftist playbook for restoring order? I'm only assuming order and safety is desired, if not the question doesn't apply to you. As a mass of people loot business X, what is the leftist-approved method of neutralizing the violence and criminal behavior?

I can't see Los Angeles City going anywhere but bankruptcy court. Huge deficit due to COVID before riots. Also, I don't see Los Angeles schools opening in fall with property tax. base taking a huge hit - virtual education for those that continue in the public system.

Federal bailout after riots? Can't see if from the red Senate.

I'm going to double down on the mixed cocktail theory because you have spelling errors in your post, a rarity.

After the Covid responses and now the riots, if one cannot detect the vast difference in effectiveness between Democrat and Republican leadership then the only prescription left is a lobotomy. They were considered sound science for many years BTW.

I know you are desperate for a haircut but there are safer ways to get one without resorting to a lobotomy.

By the way, my typos typically result from my iPad which has some malevolent autocorrect behavior.

I'm triple-downing on the cocktail theory. You know I got a haircut in Arizona last week as you've been pointing out in your posts. California has since followed Arizona's lead as there were no reported mass deaths at metro Phoenix Supercuts stores. Once again, Gavin is going with the science and data LOL.

Kind of like you advocating for higher taxes than whining about your higher taxes. I may disagree with true liberals like sycasey and oaktownbear, but I have no patience for fake ass liberals like you. I am not your ally, and you are not mine. There is nothing about you I respect. No, I think you are an idiot. Your feeble mind cannot comprehend that people like me can be at the same time against criminals destroying businesses in local neighborhoods and still be against Trump. In your weak mind, only fake socialist, anarchist typing from the comforts of their gated community can be against Trump.

Why don't you **** off and protect your Starbucks while promoting that other neighborhoods should burn down?

I have no doubt, if anyone from Antifa came within 20 miles of your neighborhood, you will be wearing a MAGA hat and mocking someone like me for being against Trump.

Listen Angry93 - I support higher taxes on myself to fund progressive goals that help people. But for a more equitable society we need to tax capital more heavily, which would also raise taxes on me.

I also support the SALT tax deduction for reasons i have covered but you refuse to hear and just want to insult me instead and move forward with strawmen.

But to the point, you made a claim about progressives defending rioting and looting. I'm asking for you to provide names to your claim.

Sure, fake ass liberal. We would all be more for taxes if it was used effectively in the manner we wanted. So it's not about income inequality but making sure you have an excuse for not acting the way you say you believe. You want your money to be spent for your causes, and don't want to pay otherwise? Make a ****ing donation, but, of course, you think that does nothing. I guess we are all liberal as long the government just taxes the other guys. We will say we are for more taxes as long as we actually don't have to pay. Look how liberal I am! I am a Pelosi type of liberal! Unlike you, I have never complained about me having to pay taxes at any historical rate or thought it was a good idea to reduce personal income tax. I just have no patience for people like you who are for paying taxes as long as it's the other guys paying.

I would be more than happy to have a substantive discussion with people I suspect actually believe what they say they believe. As I stated, I have no respect for fakes like you, and my response to you will reflect the lack of respect I have for you.

Love it. Liberals talking about who really wants to raise taxes as the tax base in Los Angeles collapses from COVID, looting and destruction.
Your comprehension of context is breathtakingly bad.

Is this idiot rando tweeting the reason for your reduced passion in removing Trump?

Folks like the wacky Professor always said anti-Trump conservatives would not be reliable allies in the fight to remove Trump. Maybe he was right about that.

Kind of like you advocating for higher taxes than whining about your higher taxes. I may disagree with true liberals like sycasey and oaktownbear, but I have no patience for fake ass liberals like you. I am not your ally, and you are not mine. There is nothing about you I respect. You and I may end up voting for the same candidate, but that is more about how crappy Trump is than an implication that you are any better.

Angry93, I don't care about the fictional narrative you want to create about me. I am too much at peace with myself to get angry about it.

Who are the progressives who are defending rioting and looting? You made a claim - back it up.

Because if you are asking such a disingenuous question like who is excusing rioting, I have no patience for you? Here, you want to play that game? You made the claim that my narrative is false. Prove it.
I didn't make the claim that your narrative is false. I asked for you to provide more information on your claim.

If Joe Biden's campaign manager is out there defending rioting and looting and so you have diminished "passion" for removing Trump, that would be one thing. If you have diminished "passion" for removing Trump because of some randos on twitter, well that would be another thing.
Despite your lack of prior demonstration of good faith, just as one example, I will suggest you look up people like Sherry Frost who equate Antifa with brave soldiers from WWII. How about all of the others who offer up bull**** table stakes like they are against property destruction but then argue that lives matter more (you know, you can value life as well as value someone's livelihood and residence) and that people just have no other ways to communicate against injustice. Really? You think looting Target is about injustice? You think burning down a middle class shop owners business is about demonstrating against injustice? Just say unequivocally that rioters are criminals and unjustified. Don't equivocate like Trump did with racists. The only way to communicate is destroy property of small business owners in the middle of a pandemic when they are already about to go bankrupt?

OK, how about the poster here justifying rioters by referring to the horrors of slavery. Really? The stupid people of all races burning down local markets were subjected to slavery? Or the same poster saying that speaking ill of the rioters means I am oppressing the oppressed? The bored white "anarchist" suffered horrors of slavery? I am tired of this nonsense with you and going4roses. The fact that you are not angry in the comforts of your upper middle class suburb while those who are already struggling are suffering more at the hands of these criminals says all there is to say about you. I stand with those who are protesting and I too am sick and tired of police brutality and a minority of bad, racists cops being protected by UNIONS despite multiple instances of bad acts. I will not equivocate my disdain for them by saying those acts are bad but then negate everything by saying being a cop is difficult and they are putting their lives in danger every day. No, police brutality is bad. Period. No buts. Furthermore, unlike some here, I do not equate protesting with rioting or the acts of Antifa or confuse criminals with those in the black community who are justifiably horrified by police brutality. For many of those who live in the neighborhoods, they hate the rioters as much as I do, and they would not think the condescending attitude of "well meaning folks" like you confusing protesters with rioters is helpful. There is no "but"

Too soon to tell. Arizona's case counts are on the rise and hit a new high on Friday. If the heat prevents COVID spread, Arizona should be the front lines.

And in case you think the increased case count is just from increased testing:
