You kind of have a generic heartland America view of the Israel/Palestine conflict, that can be summarized as "these tribes have always fought, too ancient to be resolved". Ironically enough, it's kind of more of a right-wing, flyover Republican view of the situation...
The reality is
1- this is not a war, it's a one-sided massacre
2- Biden can pull the plug, stop it with one phone call, if he wasn't subject to internal political pressure from AIPAC and its relays in DC and elsewhere. Israel cannot conduct this war without massive military support from the US.
The other problem here is that public opinion is largely ignorant about this conflict, mostly because the media does a good job of keeping it uninformed. I can't really blame you for your current views expressed above. This however is what has been enabling the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Younger progressive-leaning students at America's better universities are far better informed, being exposed to more unfiltered content online, and that is why they have been at the forefront.
