Three years after Season 1, a second season of this Swedish drama was released this year and is now on Acorn, but missing the lead actress. Still the acting is such that I follow the action easily, much of the time not even needing the subtitles.

The subtitles are funny, the characters greet each other with 'Hey", "Hey" which is translated "hello and hi."
They didn't need to bother. The last episode the characters were drinking and toasted each other "Skol",
again It didn't need to be translated to 'Cheers'.

I suppose the change of the lead character isn't as troubling after I have watched eighteen of the 27 seasons of long running Scottish series "Taggart" where the title character died in the middle of the eleventh season and was not replaced.

Interesting observation, in Taggart much of the time the Scottish detectives are driving Volvos, while in Season 2 of RM the police were driving Land Rovers. On the other hand it's easier to follow the Swedish dialogue at times than the Scottish. And then there are additional episodes of Welsh dramas that I am anticipating, that dialogue has to be dubbed.

When I visited Stockholm one of the first things I did after checking into my hotel was visit a 7-11 nearby just to see what it stocked versus the US. The concept is the same: soda, bottled water, candy, etc but obviously the items are quite different.

Anyway, when I walked in the door the girl at the counter said: "Hey!"

I thought: "Wow, they are really casual here!"

Of course, as you point out is is "Hej!"

Origins of hej as a Swedish greeting

Another oddity to me was that I wanted some Swedish pancakes. No one knew where to get those. All of the restaurants served "American pancakes" (exactly what we'd have here) for breakfast.

Yep. Use subtitles, not dubbing, on the Finish detective shows. The people that did Warrior did this one (which I dug):

Cinemax's Banshee has the best fight scenes on TV. Here are 5 reasons why. - Vox

The absurd part of the show is that every character has extreme fighting skills (featured: Jeet Kune Do, American boxing, Sambo, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga)

Swedish pancakes are simply called pancakes, or pannkakor. They are traditionally served at lunch with raspberry preserves as a side with split pea soup. If memory serves, this is traditional Wednesday lunch fare at school food halls all over the country.

For you married dudes, there is no escape from watching the latest Netflix season of The Crown. This year the gloves came off and is not the usual maudlin reverence, at the risk of understatement. Apparently the Royals are furious. Worth watching.

If it wasn't for the fact the British working class is willing to be taxed to support relics of the Empire's glory days, the Royals would be pushing mops, and lucky to have the work.

Some irony in this. Thatcher, of all people, went after the royals as privileged snobs.

The comment about working class taxes supporting the royals is utter garbage, and the kind of inflammatory inaccurate comment you would expect from our outgoing President.

" That money comes from the Duchy of Lancaster a portfolio of land and other assets that's been in the royal family for hundreds of years."

Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Anglophile, I forgot that before they got it from the taxpayers they just extorted or stole it from their subjects (and from all parts of The Empire)*...and then after the passage of time it morphed into "their own money." They should be driving cabs. The citizenry should start a reparations movement!

It it is any consolation, my English ancestors were stealing things from my Italian ancestors. Of course only after my Italian (Roman) ancestors and subjugated and taxed my English ancestors.

Of course, and they taste the same there as they do here.

IKEA has too large of a footprint to exist in the city proper. It is in the suburbs. There is a dedicated bus to shuttle people to and from downtown Stockholm to IKEA.

My wife (primarily French), forces me to watch The Crown (no, I owe her for her watching my violent cop shows). The Crown is beautifully produced, acted and photographed but it is literally painful to watch those silly, entitled twits. I got no pleasure watching the scene of the IRA blowing up Lord Mountbatten and his relatives. I never supported the tactics of the IRA but that is the kind of movement that springs from empire building.
