the targeted 2015 is intended to forever change the trajectory of the cal basketball program, to compete for national championships...these guys are elite 5 star immediate impact blue chippers that have been ranked in the top 40 of their class, they are all truly diamonds
stephen domingo, #35 ranked player in the 2013 class, is already a california golden bear
tyler dorsey, #19th ranked player in the 2015 class
brandon sampson, #40th ranked player in the 2015 class
caleb swanigan, #8 ranked player in the 2015 class
ivan rabb, #1 ranked (prior to a minor summertime injury) player in the 2015 class
Now.... if Cuonzo can only deliver that recruit wish list...
i 100% reject this type of thinking
what is your responsibility as a cal fan to move the program forward?...do you attend games at haas to generate crowd noise energy & generate revenues for the program or are you a passive sorry broken down dumb azz who just watches the games on their sofa while stuffing their face with twinkies?
the current major difference right now between the cal basketball program and kentucky, kansas & arizona are the fans...the fans in these crappy dumps actually go to the games, recruits love sold out games...if true cal fans will invest emotionally & financially (as opposed to just watching games on television & then posting on fan message boards), the bears will be in a stronger position to close on the big 4 & compete for future national championships
this ain't all on cuonzo, look in the mirror & ask yourself what are you gonna do?
i used to caddie at san francisco golf club & dream about playing the world's greatest golf courses instead of just carrying someone else's golf bag...pictured below is me putting out (i made this 25 foot putt on an overcast windy day) on the par 5 island green on the 18th hole at nine bridges on jeju island in south korea to become the 13th (and youngest) person to ever play the golf magazine world top 100 list
wake the **** up & relentlessly pursue your dreams in life

I agree with you. Having a home arena full of rowdy fans is huge! Busting fans at whatever their level and ability to support is a waste of energy, however. Cal athletics needs to find structural ways of getting fannies in the seats. It can be done. Marketing dollars.
I've been agreeing with you for years. Fill the seats by whatever means necessary leads to recruits, leads to fans filling seats at a premium.
Investment.
Of course, the 4 2015 recruits can have a say in the matter, can jump start the whole process, by just signing up now!
the california golden bears 2016 class is gonna be led by uber athletic oscar frayer of moreau catholic & the oakland soliders & hopefully santa monica's jonah mathews too...this class will likely have a strong nor cal & california (and hopefully nevada too) presence of guys that are gonna be howlin' at the moon in berkeley at the #1 ranked public (#3 ranked overall) university in the world
mark poyser, dad of onetime cal scouted guard jalen poyser, commented that "jalen's official visit to unlv this past weekend was very good...their academics are on par with what we want"
gotta give dad points for his honesty re: unlv's highly popular gaming machine repair degree program or the more academically challenging (reading skills are required) stripper std health degree program
Dear Shocky,
As the newly appointed Chancellor of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, I am pleased to report that many of the action items in my innovative "2020 UNLV Academic Game Plan: Transforming Sin City's #1 Ranked Public University into the Future" have been successfully implemented:
*****stripper poles have been removed from all campus libraries *****the admissions department will no longer give preference to those with ged certification *****the casino parking valet major has been signficantly revamped & strengthened *****all incoming student athletes will be required to pass a rigorous criminal background check *****the basketball spirit group will no longer chant "I will cut you, bitch, I will mess you up" when opposing teams score baskets
Shocky, on your next golf trip to Shadow Creek or the Pac 12 Conference Tournament, please feel free to reach out to me for a personal tour of our campus along with complimentary blackjack chips.
Thank you for reviewing in depth my strategic academic repositioning gameplan for the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Your sage suggestion that we consider not allowing escort agencies to come on campus and setting up information booths during the spring UNLV Career Job Fair is one I'm taking a hard look at acting upon during the upcoming year.
Although I can't publicly agree with you for obvious reasons in my current professional capacity, I wholeheartedly embrace your often repeated and brilliantly insightful thesis that highly attractive females from academically mediocre schools seek out Cal, Stanford and Ivy League grads as future boyfriends and husbands.
Shocky, this leads me to my simple request: Would you please introduce Tyrone Wallace to my daughter Aurielle?
Would you please check with Mr. Wallace and Mr. Marco Harris at the next game and confirm back to me that Tyrone will be graduating from Cal during the 2015/2016 academic year? I do not want my only daughter hooking up with a "Dumb Azz" that hasn't actually graduated from Cal, college drop outs have no future. Gosh, it's awfully fun to speak like you, Shocky!
Please convey to Tyrone that Aurielle (pictured below) is a recent honor role graduate of UNLV in our well regarded Horse Track Racing Transportation major, that she is very cheerful and loves all animals. Tyrone likes bareback horse riding, right Shocky?

bill self, per his recent quotes, loves devonte graham at the point for the future so he's focusing on elite frontcourt talent right now including ivan rabb, jaylen brown, carlton bragg, cheick diallo, brandon ingram, stephen zimmerman & thomas bryant
kansas is most likely only going to bring in one guard & self's only actionable offer is to the #1 ranked guard in the country, malik newman...newman isn't going to make a decision until the very last minute in order to see the impact of early nba departures at his 2 favorites, kansas & kentucky....no wonder malik is smiling
tyler, how long are you gonna let coach self slowplay you?...do you really think bill has your best interests in mind?
"just knowing malik, from now until the season is over, college coaches are really just going to be wasting their time...because he's not going to be thinking about recruiting...he's listen to what they have to say and enjoy his visits but as far as making his decision, he's not thinking about it...that's the farthest thing from his mind right now" -david sanders (head basketball coach at jackson (ms) calloway high school) re: his star player
Very nice profile. Yeah, I could root for him! Who is #24 on the soldiers in the clip? 2:54 and 2:59 Looks like coach Lou Richie has been a good mentor! Love it. The unsung non-millionaires-to-be.
sometimes in life you gotta listen to people that are wiser than you...recent conversation with my good friend & longtime business mentor johnny:
me: what up?
johnny: yeah, i have a request for you regarding arika's wedding saturday (his oldest daughter is getting married this weekend at the montelucia)
me: sure, no problem
johnny: ok, good, i want you to get a haircut this week for the wedding, ok?
me: why?
johnny: because you look like a cal hippie yoga teacher
me: thank you
johnny: can you do that for me?
me: sure, anything else?
johnny: well, actually there is one more thing
me: really?
johnny: i don't want you to wear one of your suits
me: are you serious, why?
johnny: because rhonda (his wife) thinks you look like the joker
me: (reminding myself that johnny is gonna invite me again to augusta national next spring, i've played golf there 4 separate times on 63 hole trips, twice with johnny who's tight with a member): so, what should i wear then, should i show up naked?
johnny: let's go down to my car now then, i got one of my suits that you can borrow
me: wow, you got this all planned out, don't you?...you're pretty organized for a dumb azz
johnny: relax
me: ok, anything else, is there a script i need to follow too?
johnny: well, we've put you at the "fun" table but don't do anything stupid, ok?
me: like what, maybe palm the azz of one of arika's bridesmaids while the band plays?
johnny: that's exactly what i'm talking about!
me: you're a dumb azz
johnny: thank you
i have mentors for just about everything in life...mentors are people who have your best interests at heart (even if you don't always understand their advice)...if you think you don't need mentors for the various aspects of your life, you're not gonna become self-actualized (the best possible you) & maximize your unlimited opportunities in life...don't be a know it all dumb azz (like me sometimes)
it's been my experience that almost everybody that you ever ask to mentor you will be honored by your request & will help you if you ask sincerely
remember, keep your eye on the ball
ok, so maybe i organized a 1:30 am golf cart rally race around the resort & a group headstand/handstand photo (underwear optional)
go bares#
update: johnny leaves me a message that "we gotta talk"
ruh roh
johnny: we just got the wedding photos...did you know that you are photobombing people in half the photos?
me: yes
johnny (getting agitated): what kind of person photobombs people at a wedding?
me: a dumb azz?
johnny (getting annoyed): yeah, that's right, you're a total dumb azz...christina (one of arika's bridesmaids, her boyfriend is jason mraz who sang during the ceremony) told me she told you that you could be in her photos but you apparently told her you would rather just photobomb her when she least expects it...are you serious?...what the **** is wrong with you?...how old are you, are you 9 years old?
me: 9 and a half
johnny: what?...you're ******* hopeless (editor's note: it's never a good thing when one of your mentors tells you that you're "******* hopeless")...well, christina did say she thinks you are really fun and that she enjoyed talking to you about yoga, dogs and sustainable farming
me: did she mention i have a nice smile?
johnny (getting really annoyed): no she didn't you piece of ****
me: you swear too much when you get angry...how come you let jason mraz wear jeans to the wedding?
johnny (getting fired up): is that what this is all really about?...your upset that i made you get a haircut and wear one of my suits and then jason mraz got to wear jeans?
me: maybe
johnny: (getting really really annoyed): it has always amazed me that nobody has ever kicked your ******* azz
me: so what's our tee time?
johnny: 7:00 am, we're first out, don't be late
this foto doesn't capture how cute christina is in real life; on the other hand, mraz looks like a tractor repair guy
2:15 am conversation with jason mraz at the wedding:
Very nice profile. Yeah, I could root for him! Who is #24 on the soldiers in the clip? 2:54 and 2:59 Looks like coach Lou Richie has been a good mentor! Love it. The unsung non-millionaires-to-be.
Pretty sure that #24 = 2016 Cal commit Oscar Frayer
2015 asu commit jordan washington was arrested last week & charged with theft...washington is currently attending the indian hills community college (he barely graduated from high school in queens)...his booking charges include shoplifting from the ottumwa walmart the dvd of the curse of chucky (not to be confused with the curse of shocky)
i dunno, maybe jordan's defense attorney is gonna claim that his theft is related to his academic film studies of great american movies?
cal & asu ain't recruiting from the same academic & character talent pool that's for sure
update: herbie is no longer recruiting washington, the retailers on mill avenue just won't allow it
who else are the sun devils building their 2014/2015 team around?
uhh...that would be criminals
**shaquielle mckissic, asu's top returning player, grew up in washington & was convicted of attempted burglary...a 2.5 gpa dumb azz in high school & then went to edmonds community college...when shaquielle tells his teammates during timeouts to steal the ball, he really means it
**savon goodman, asu's top incoming player, is transferring from unlv after pleading guilty to petty theft & trespass charges...another 2.5 gpa dumb azz in high school, goodman then went to indian hills community college after unlv...when savon tells his teammates let's go to study hall, he probably doesn't mean it
cal & asu ain't recruiting from the same academic & character talent pool that's for sure
To be fair, since you know I always am, seems to me we've had academic and character issues: Bubba Paris' kid allegedly stopped going to class and became ineligible, the other "O" kid whose name I could never spell allegedly stole laptops and quietly disappeared. Now go ahead, feel free to post that Dana Altman photo again, and the Tucson billboard ugliness, and the drunk sidewalk bum who didn't get a Cal degree... LOL. Top it off with a little T&A, action Cal grads will be getting for the rest of their lives. This oughta be a softball pitch for ya. Start here: http://americanchess.net/ace-program/mission-statement/
"if you went to a jc, you messed up somewhere along the road" -shaquielle mckissic
"it just seems to make great sense with the way college basketball has evolved...we're positioned to attract the best junior college players in the country...we've had some good success, most notably with carrick felix and shaquielle mckissic, and now have another group of guys we're really excited about as well" -herb sendek
shocky's translation of herbie's statement: "look, nobody with half a brain or a gpa over 2.8 is gonna come to asu unless they wanna work in fast food for the rest of their life, so i'm targeting junior college athletes with criminal records that nobody (other than probably dana altman) is recruiting and then hoping like hell they don't kill anyone while they're in tempe"
what up, tyler?#
full disclosure: my current 1st wife kat is an asu grad including a masters degree in something economically useless...lucky for her she married a cal grad & therefore isn't working at burger king and/or the candy store like most of her female classmates
tyler, if you think these guys are clowns, try hanging out with the asu basketball team, half of herbie's starting 5 have probation officers (not that that's a bad thing, we're not here to judge)
Nicely done on those two quotes. Yeah, Tyler, don't go to ASU...
Shocky: if you succumbed to the lure of ASU women, what's to stop Tyler from doing so?
tom, if tyler wants to get an asu girl as a girlfriend and/or wife, the best way is to become a graduate of cal, stanford or an ivy league institution...going to asu is just gonna get him a drinking problem, a std or two & a worthless degree in the highly competitive worldwide economy
as for me, it's really quite simple, my destiny includes asu women

Something tells me these coeds are not slim b/c they've been diligently working on their downward dog.
Ivan Rabb is one of the most athletic players in the class of 2015 and he uses that athleticism defensively to block shots, get deflections and gain offensive rebounds with a quick second jump. His post-up game against a set defense is developing as he can score with either hand in the paint. Love the way he finishes lob passes and drop off passes in the lane. His length and soft touch in close would make him a great weapon in the middle or short corners against a zone defense. He has added the pump fake at the rim which will keep help him balanced and create more free throw opportunities as he is smooth and solid from the line.
Bottom Line: With a world of potential because of his size, wing span, advanced athletic ability and blossoming skill he owns all the markers to be a difference maker at the rim defensively and a legitimate offensive threat. He is more active and alert on the glass than ever before and is at the point where you expect him to dominate the game on both ends of the floor.

another well written article by kevin mccarthy on the nor cal basketball blog re: richard midgley...midgley grew up physically & mentally tough in a dreary blue collar working class neighbourhood in england, he would knock guys on ther azz (and then help them up) http://norcalbasketball.blogspot.com/
richard knocked down a contested ice in his veins 3 pointer with 3.9 seconds to lead the bears to a 76-74 ncca tournament victory over north carolina state...he is pictured below with free spirit rod benson...midgley earned his degree from cal & is now pursuing his basketball coaching dreams...richard told me he considers theo robertson one of his best friends & that he still gets to cal games when he can including last season's celebration vs arizona at haas pavilion
