the cal staff is actively targeting with an actionable offer ira lee a 6'7" 235 lbs power forward from sierra canyon (chatsworth), a top 20 player in the 2017 class

lee missed his sophomore season after undergoing shoulder surgery but is "95%" of the way back now...dude is very physical down low & is currently playing for the oakland soldiers

this is likely gonna be yet another cal, arizona & ucla recruiting battle with ira planning to unofficially visit with his family both berkeley (65% today) & tucson (109% today) this july

ira is a strong student (duke & stanford have also show interest) which is gonna hurt an academically mediocre school like arizona...his decision will focus upon "coaching style, atmosphere and education"

"i like the way they play...coach martin said he'll get me to the next level...i like the way they do things up there...they are trying to build up and win a championship"
-ira lee

lee has already accompanied his sierra canyon teammates to berkeley for one state championship

yeah, ira would an ideal cal fit to replace ivan rabb in 2017 & help them bears touch the sky

"my oakland soldiers teammates are all northern guys...i get it from my dad too because he is from the bay area, so he would like me to go to cal"

"it's good to see ivan rabb in shape but there's no conceivable way that he made that transformation in such a period of time"
-jason scheer, editor of the arizona message board

in real life jason scheer is a chunky monkey just like jeff goodman & sean "dunkin' donuts" miller, there are a lot of lazy fat azzs in tucson...you can only eat so many double cheeseburgers with extra fries & cokes at dirtbags before you become a sloppy mess, no wonder that the balance of power is shifting in the pac 12

jason scheer is reporting that the cal s&c program under coach nicodemus is "fraudulent," that ivan rabb has actually lost weight since arriving in berkeley & currently weighs 197 lbs & that them wildcats are gonna "kick the candy azz soft azzs" of them bears again like they did 3 times last season

the bears staff has offered explosive point guard charlie moore, a 5'9" 165 lbs dynamo from chicago public league powerhouse morgan park high school

moore delivered a signature 31 points last friday nite in las vegas in leading his mac irvin fire to an upset aau victory over cp3 & soundly outplayed uconn commit alterique gilbert...like former bears 2009/2010 pac 12 mvp jerome randle (charlie & rome know each other), moore's got elite deep range & the ability to create shots but also sometimes questionable decision making

illinois (almost year round nasty humid or freezing cold azz weather) is putting the full court press on charlie but it could get real interesting if he decides to take an official visit to the #1 ranked public university in the world located in the beautiful & cosmopolitan san francisco bay area...cali isn't sweater weather

yeah, charlie's gonna be in the next updated rankings for the top 100 players in the 2016 class

charlie moore will be officially visiting cal & his fellow chicago guy coach webster for the san diego state football weekend september 11th...visits also set for pittsburgh, illinois & memphis

in fairness to jason, he was only repeating was he was told by joe...but guess what, there's a lot of oakland soliders & their families that find joe's personality annoying & his promises untrustworthy

the bears staff has offered sacha killeya-jones, an elite stretch 4 6'10" 207 lbs top 30 player in the 2016 class from the virginia episcopal school & team felton summer aau program

killeya-jones lives in chapel hill & attends high school in virginia...he recently made a decommitment from tony bennett's virginia squad & has since visited/received offers from also kentucky & north carolina...cal is definitely in the running with coach martin & huf making a prioritized effort to watch his games in las vegas last week

sacha got a 3.3 gpa, he's not a dumb azz...like teammate javin delaurier, killeya-jones might take a visit to cal...yeah, cali summers are a little cooler than those on the east coast

bears played with tremendous fight & heart after a sluggish start in defending the 3 pointer in the 1st quarter

jordan mathews with stellar newfound slashing production along with his expected lethal perimeter shooting

but at the end of the night, 40-55 free throws by the hawks under the crazy azz australian basketball rules & the missed opportunities 19-32 free throws by the bears were the difference

this is correctable with hard work (and american referees)

Cal loses a hard fought exhibition game in OT to the Australian professional team, Illawarra Hawks

Make no mistake about it, the Bears had no answer for the Hawks 6-11 center, AJ Ogilvy, a former three-time All-SEC player for Vanderbilt, and NBL First Team selection

He fouled out the entire Cal front court and sent the game to OT with two clutch FTs

Hats off to the Illawarra Hawks, their very gracious announcers and staff, and good luck on their upcoming season

For those who didn't see the game last night, the power of that statement is that he actually caught the pass that he threw - although not entirely one end to the other end, it was that his hustle was so good that, when there was some kind of muff or kerfuffle on the other end of the pass, he was there to clean it up; and it was a real pass, not just a hand off. He had to go far, and have major anticipation, to catch the ball not so very long after he threw it (and it didn't bounce toward him - IIRC). It was indeed quite a play. Another thing to like about this JB: The power of his play comes as much from his intellect as from his athleticism. He not only out-quicks people, but out-thinks them. Rabb is the same. The major difference between them at this stage is that the team puts the ball in JB's hands in the back-court, almost as a default position; but the team is a fair distance at this point from being able to get the ball to Rabb in the numerous ways and positions in which he is capable of being effective.

a bears coach told me prior to the australia trip that the staff is not currently targeting any recruits from down under...there are d1 programs with assistant coaches that are natives of australia that relentlessly work the region year round that already have strong established relationships within the oz basketball community...it's a matter of limited resources & allocating those efforts in regions that project the most favorable returns

after lighting up the bears for 55 points in 2 games, i'll report here if that thinking has changed re: vasiljevic

who was another Monster during the Australian tour?

That would be Mr. Jordan Mathews

Jordan scored a team high 24 points vs the Hawks on an efficient 8-14 shooting, including 5-9 from three, and 3-4 FT, and added 3 boards and 2 assists

Jordan has improved his drive game. As a freshmen, he would drive and either get blocked or force a shot. As a soph, he continued to drive and he improved his finishing, but it looks like Mathews has made another step up in his ability to drive and finish around the basket.
