Brett Johnson Grapples With Noseguard Position

November 1, 2019

Oftentimes athletes find that skills learned in one sport can help them in another.

That is certainly the case with Cal’s freshman noseguard Brett Johnson, who applies some of the tricks he learned as a wrestler to his current job. In fact, he feels not only are they helpful, but they are also necessary.

“I definitely wouldn’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for wrestling,” Johnson said after practice earlier in the Bears bye week.

With projected starter Siulagisipai Fuimaono out since the start of training camp and backup Aaron Maldonado just now rounding into shape, the Bears had a need at noseguard and Johnson has helped fill it.
