Bequette to Transfer For Senior Season

6th year senior defensive end Luc Bequette, a mainstay of the Cal defense for the past half decade, has decided to transfer to Boston College for the opportunity to play football in the fall and potentially make an NFL run.

If there were fall football in the Pac-12, it’s safe assume that Bequette would still be a Bear. But he uncertainties of a spring season being played along with the time proximity to the NFL draft and the 2021 NFL season made the gamble of waiting and hoping for spring too much of a gamble for the veteran d-lineman.

“It’s not how I envisioned the end of my Cal and college career going, but just feel like I need to play this Fall for the best opportunity for my shot at the next level,” said Bequette. “Trust me, though, I’ll always bleed Blue and Gold and my “Bear Cave” that I’ll have someday will be full of Cal stuff!”

One of the most productive defensive linemen in collegiate football in the past two seasons, Bequette has totalled 130 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three pass breakups, three passes defended, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, four quarterback hurries and one blocked kick, playing in 42 games over the last four seasons after redshirting as a true freshman in 2015 and started all 38 contests over the past three seasons to share Cal's active career lead in current consecutive starts with Camryn Bynum and Jake Curhan.

There won't be a Fall season. Anywhere.

Big loss for the Bears, but can't fault him for making the move.

Best of luck...until we meet BC in the national championship game in the spring after the ACC season is postponed!

That said, has he received a degree from Cal? What are his options for completing the Cal degree if he enrolls elsewhere?

Given his productivity, is he that much of a bubble for the draft or is this more about showing versatility and playing into the top rounds? Current schedule has BC visiting Clemson on Halloween and hosting Notre Dame two weeks later...those are the dates for him to perform.

When the ACC season gets shut down for COVID in September, Luc can transfer back to Cal & play the spring season!!!

He had to have received his degree. Otherwise, he would not be eligible to play this fall.

I don't always feel this way about transers, but in this case I'm wishing Bequette the very best. Under the circumstances, his decision is understandable and I don't blame him one bit for wanting to play (if possible) and move on.

He's has been (and is) a great Golden Bear and fine representative of Cal.

In normal circumstances, of course.

Was this requirement relaxed given the COVID-19 situation? I have seen no mention of him receiving a degree...

Transfer waivers are not permitted between conferences that postponed and conferences that are playing. Therefore, he had to have received his degree.

Good luck, Luc! Well done at Cal. I hope you get a shot at playing on Sundays!

My undertaking is he will be grad transfer and eligible for fall play.
