Friday Night Lights Week 2
Another week of 2021 Cal commit football brings play from Arizona and Minnesota, with recruits from those locations among those actively playing. Recruits from other states, mostly West Coast, won’t begin their senior year seasons until spring.
Kai Millner
After impressing with his legs last week, Kai Millner showcased his throwing ability Friday, completing 73% of his passes for 471 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception in a 42-21 victory over Desert Ridge, the 11th ranked team in Arizona.
Trailing 7-0 to start the game, Higley responded with their version of the “Philly Special,” finding Kai Millner in the endzone on a trick play to tie it up.
In the second quarter, Higley took the lead 14-7 with this dime thrown by Millner up the seam.
Tied up at 14-14, the Higley Knights would pull away by scoring two more times to take a 28-14 lead in the second quarter.
Millner’s big highlights came in the second half, where he threw a 54-yard touchdown to Heywood and an 89-yard touchdown to Hancock.
After completing just 52% of his passes for 349 yards in his first two games, Millner showed drastic improvement in accuracy while doubling his season yardage total two days ago. While the Jaguars were effective in limiting Millner’s run game, forcing him to just 2.2 yards/carry, they were left exposed in coverage on the perimeter and seams. Millner took advantage.
Hunter Barth
Hunter Barth took the field Friday for a 12-7 loss against opposing Queen Creek high school Casteel. No stats have been recorded for the game nor highlights. Stay posted.
J Michael Sturdivant
J Michael Sturdivant took Friday “off” with a bye week. Next Friday he’ll take on Flower Mound High School at 5:00pm Pacific Time. Last week he caught 2 touchdowns for 68 yards.
Bastian Swinney
Taking the field in the second week of Minnesota high school football on Thursday, Bastian Swinney’s Edina high school lost 42-0 versus Prior Lake.
