Multiple Cal Football Student-Athletes In COVID Protocol

BERKELEY, CA – Multiple Cal football student-athletes are in COVID protocol and will not be available to play in Saturday's game at Arizona. All student-athletes traveling to Tucson will be tested and cleared prior to departing the Bay Area. Everyone within the Cal football program is compliant with UC Berkeley's COVID-19 vaccine requirements, and 99 percent of football student-athletes are fully vaccinated. Due to state and federal student privacy laws, Cal Athletics is not able to comment on the personal health of individual student-athletes.

"Our primary concern is for the health of our student-athletes, and we continue to monitor the situation closely," Cal Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton said. "As we know, this pandemic is not over. We need to respect it and understand that it can affect much of what we do every day. Even with 99 percent of our football student-athletes fully vaccinated, we have seen that breakthrough cases are still possible."

Lets hope the entire offensive line is not out again.they should have left for Arizona. An astute reporter might meet the plane and see who is not there. Kiss the season good bye. I would go all in for basketball..

Lets hope all the offensive linemen dont live in the same house. The debut of the back up qb? Inquiring minds want to know.

99% of team is vaccinated. Are we still quarantining exposures with no symptoms even amongst the vaccinated? CDC doesn't require that.

It sounds like vaccinated players tested positive to me. As far as I can read the protocols vaccinated players don't need to quarantine just based on exposure.

I don't even understand how we could have 50 people out. That's an absurd amount of breakthrough cases if 99% of the team is vaccinated. Are players required to be completely isolated for X days just by virtue of exposure even when vaccinated?

Agree, this doesn't make sense. If 99% of players are vax'ed and you have to test positive to be out when vax'ed, number has to be lower. Maybe 5-10 if there was a mass exposure.
