Multiple Cal Football Student-Athletes In COVID Protocol

BERKELEY, CA – Multiple Cal football student-athletes are in COVID protocol and will not be available to play in Saturday's game at Arizona. All student-athletes traveling to Tucson will be tested and cleared prior to departing the Bay Area. Everyone within the Cal football program is compliant with UC Berkeley's COVID-19 vaccine requirements, and 99 percent of football student-athletes are fully vaccinated. Due to state and federal student privacy laws, Cal Athletics is not able to comment on the personal health of individual student-athletes.

"Our primary concern is for the health of our student-athletes, and we continue to monitor the situation closely," Cal Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton said. "As we know, this pandemic is not over. We need to respect it and understand that it can affect much of what we do every day. Even with 99 percent of our football student-athletes fully vaccinated, we have seen that breakthrough cases are still possible."

Seems odd to me given that no one knows how many starters are out of the game for Cal. Let's take a hypothetical, if 60 - 80% of Cal's starting OL is out, there is no way the spread is that high. Nobody knows, atm, yet the spread has only moved 4 points down from its high prior to the news breaking.

i'm fine with this as long as garbers is there

though if garbers was going, i think MB would have reassured us by now. he wouldn't say who isn't going, but if he knew Chase was going, my guess is MB would say so. i could be wrong, of course

Well, is he out or not? Actually why don't you just tell us who IS out, assuming you know. Presumably Arizona knowsjust had to see who got off the plane and who didn't. Can't see how privacy rules apply. We're all going to know eventually. The game starts in three and a half hours.

Someone could write a thesis on this one:

It's called Russiagate
On a very small scale, this episode is another example of why this country is circling the drain. People have either lost the ability to employ the concept of critical thinking or never possessed it. Heck, if graduates of the "premier public university" in the country are behaving like this, it tells me a lot about how the university has failed its obligation to educate them.

Watched the Furd Utes game last night, where Furd played basically without about half its starters due primarily to rash of injuries and that had limited depth (QB, top 2 of 3 RBs, 3 top WRs, the kicker. one lineman, a corner, , one safety, and on and on), and played with some guys who had not played in some time or ever. This was the team that took down Oregon. They had a different line-up against Utah and got creamed by what could be the best team in a mediocre conference.

I know everyone hates Shaw as smug, but here it goes:

"Obviously we missed some guys who aren't out there. But we have 11 out there at a time, strap it up and get out there and play.... It's inexcusable." I expect the Cal coaches to come in with the same attitude. Strap it up guys and win.

Do some of you people really know? Is disclosing players' playing status breaking some rule like insider trading in the stock market? This is too funny. And is all of this mess affecting only Cal due to City of Berkeley rules? Please someone help me out!
