Laird Outshines Love in a Losing Cause

November 18, 2017

For probably the first time this year, Stanford's Bryce Love was the second-best running back on the field.

The Cardinal's Heisman Trophy candidate did have his moments in Saturday's Big Game, most importantly his 57-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put his team up, 17-6, en route to its 17-14 victory.

But by far the best ball carrier in Stanford Stadium this night was Cal's Patrick Laird. The junior continued his remarkable rise from walk-on to third stringer to star with a Big Game that will rank with some of the best of all time.
