Bears Get on the Offensive Board With Commitment from Hunter
6-2/190 3 star Salinas wide receiver Nyziah Hunter wrapped up his official visits with a trip to Corvalis last weekend following visits to Cal and Colorado State and after a few additional days of deliberation, the speedy (10.61 100) receiver made the call for Cal today.
“The reason why I picked Cal is because as soon as I got there, it felt like home with the coaches and the players and the staff. I vibe well with the players and the bond I feel with them is strong already. My family loved everything about their time there. I feel like I’ll be in good hands because I trust the coaches.”
Hunter’s visit to Cal played a big role in the Bears netting the Salinas athlete’s commitment.
“It was a great experience for me and my family,” said Hunter after his visit. “I loved the campus, I loved the players, I loved the coaches. It was a great time being over there in Berkeley. I got to see around the bay and build relationships with the team and the coaches, expecially with Coach Toler and Kai (Millner) and Mavin (Anderson). They were my hosts. It was just a really good time in Berkeley.
“My vibe with the players, I know I can have the brotherly relationship with them because they’re a lot like me -talkative and fun to be around.”
Hunter became the Bears’ first commit on the offensive side of the ball, joing prior commits Ashton Sanders (Cathedral Catholic HS/LA DL), Mountain Ridge (Herriman, UT) HS MLB Cade Uluave, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) HS safety RJ Jones and Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park, CA) HS CB Sailasa Vadrawale in the Bears’ 2023 class to-date.
Besides Cal, Oregon State and Colorado State, Hunter holds offers from Washington, BYU and more. As a junior, Hunter totalled 41 receptions for 651 yards and 8 TDs at receiver and 9 carries for 141 yards and 4 TDs on the ground.
