Bears Downed By Ducks In Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. – The California men’s basketball team could not quell a hot-shooting night by Oregon and dropped an 84-51 road contest at Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday night.
Oregon (17-13, 10-9 Pac-12) won its second straight game as five Ducks scored in double figures, including Jermaine Couisnard, who finished with a game-high 17 points. The Ducks shot 55% from the field and dominated the backboards with a 45-21 rebounding advantage. Cal (3-27, 2-17) was paced by 11 points from Sam Alajiki, who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and was 4 of 5 from the floor. Grant Newell added nine points while Joel Brown had seven points and three assists. Lars Thiemann returned to action after a one-game absence, scoring nine points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Oregon made six 3-pointers and shot 59% over the opening 20 minutes and held a 42-26 advantage at halftime. With the Bears trailing by just five points with 6:32 to go in the first half, the Ducks closed the opening frame on a 12-4 run to stretch their lead to double figures.
Cal shot 35.2% from the floor on the way to its 14th consecutive loss.
