O-line looks bigger which is great! Noticed Hightower is not listed in the newcomer section - is he still on the team / playing this year?

Can't wait for Cal football!

I think the newcomer section was just for summer additions. Hightower was here in Spring just somewhat injured. BI had an article on him maybe 10 days ago. He is listed on the roster as #7.

I always look through the roster for the Lamorinda kids since I live out there. Is that a mis-print for Tyler Murphy? A 6' tall, 200# OL?

Interesting- a quick glance reveals that Cal's roster has only about 50% returners from last season. That's a massive turnover, many at key offensive positions. Ott goes from the top freshman to the veteran leader in one year. Both lines provide the bulk of the returning rosters, especially on DL, where it looks like over 75% are returning. Hopefully the DL can actually stay healthy. That would be a big deal for the season's prognosis.

The OL will keep the DL healthy.

Spencer Brien, PK (Danville / DLS). Any relation? Assuming yes given multiple coincidences.
Ditto Dean-Taylor Chapman.
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

Well in this transfer portal era there will be lots of turnover. Last year USC turned over a similar number and went 11-1 in the regular season. As you point out there is returning experience along both lines. But the transfers along the OL are expected to be significant upgrades.

There are a number of good players returning from injury as well like Brett Johnson, Stanley McKenzie, Derek Wilkins and Akili Calhoun on the DL. To me the big concern is at QB. No real experience there and with a new OC even Mendoza as a returning player has a lot to learn.

I feel good about the RB and DB depth. The WR room did lose a big talent in Sturdivant but do return 3 guys with experience (Hunter, Anderson and Young) and add a good player in Taj Davis and there is depth available.

I understand the concern over the turnover. But we do know that the roster they had was not good enough.
