James Looney On NFL Combine List

BERKELEY – Former Cal defensive end James Looney is on an official list of 336 players invited to participate in the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine released Tuesday by the NFL. The event is scheduled to take place February 27 – March 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Top front office executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Each combine attendee has the opportunity to go through on-field position work and a series of measurable skills testing including the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 3 cone drill, and 20 and 60-yard shuttles. Among other activities at the combine are hospital pre-exam and X-rays, measurements, medical examinations, media interviews, team interviews, an NFLPA meeting and psychological testing.

The combine attendees will arrive staggered by position groups with Looney among the scheduled Day 3 arrivals of defensive linemen and linebackers March 1. Looney is in a group slated to bench press March 3 followed by the remainder of measurable skills testing and on-field workouts during its final day at the combine March 4.

James Looney, DE, 6-3, 280, Lake Worth, FL (Cal/Wake Forest/Lake Worth HS)
• Participated in the East-West Shrine Game following his 2017 senior season at Cal and contributed three tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one pass defended late in the contest that helped secure a victory for the winning West squad
• Earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors and was named the Golden Bears' Co-Most Valuable Lineman (Brick Muller Award) during both his 2016 junior and senior seasons at Cal
• Cal's MVP on the defensive side of the ball and a team captain as a junior
• Registered collegiate career totals of 133 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss (-93 yards), 8.5 sacks (-34 yards), five fumble recoveries including one he returned for 25 yards, five quarterback hurries and one pass breakup over 42 games and 35 starts during his four collegiate campaigns on the field at Cal (2015-17) and Wake Forest (2013) with a redshirt season in 2014
• Played in 36 or 37 possible career games at Cal with his 35 starts over his three seasons with the Bears a team best
 
2018 NFL Draft
The 2018 NFL Draft will be held April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be televised live by ESPN, ESPN2 and the NFL Network.
