MORAGA - The Bears shook off a disappointing series loss to Virginia last weekend to get back on the winning track with a 13-7 win over 11-9 St. Mary’s in Moraga Tuesday afternoon with a 17-hit onslaught.

The Bears jumped out quickly, putting up a 4-spot with an opposite field Carl Schmidt home run in the 2nd inning to go up 4-0 over the Gaels.

After a pair of St. Mary’s runs, the Bears continued to add to their lead with an RBI single from Jarren Advincula, who had 3 hits for the third consecutive game to raise his average to .365 after a slow start to the season. They added two more on a Cade Campbell RBI single that extended the lead to 7-2 and yet another on a PJ Moutzaridis RBI single to push the lead to 8-2. Campbell had his first 5-hit game to push his season average to an impressive .417 and Moutzaridis added 4 hits of his own.

The Gaels clawed their way back into the game with a pair of runs in the 4th, 6th and 7th to draw to within a run before the Bears continued their hitting onslaught with a pair of singles with RBI by Moutzaridis and a Schmidt double that plated another pair of runs to put the Bears’ lead out of reach.

Cole Tremain earned the victory on the mound as the second of four Cal pitchers in the win. Tremain gave up 3 hits and 2 unearned runs over 2.2 innings.

The Bears will next face #14 Stanford Friday in Palo Alto as they continue on their 9-game road trip. They moved to 10-10 (2-4) with the win.
