Bears Add Speedy Fresno Receiver Tyree Sams

June 17, 2025

The Bears unprecedented run of recruiting success continued today with the commitment of blazing fast Clovis North wide receiver Tyree Sams to Cal on his early week official visit today.

“The coaching staff was awesome!” Sams said after his commitment today. “The energy and atmosphere was great. Facilities are nice. It’s not far from home and their academic portfolio is amazing. Beyond football, the support is amazing, too. The offensive plans sound explosive with me coming here, too.”

As a junior, the 5-8/175 blazer with a 10.4 100 speed had 44 catches for 534 yards and 7 TDs and 1,000 all-purpose yards along with one interceptions on defense for Clovis North in a run-heavy offense led by McKay Madsen, a 4-star standout running back and linebacker who committed to BYU. He can be used in the slot in a lot of creative ways and is tough to catch and tackle. Sams can also be used in the return game with his speed and elusiveness.

Sams becomes the 21st commit of the 2026 class, moving Cal up to #12 in the Rivals team recruiting rankings. He joins fellow 2026 Cal commits QBs Brady Palmer‍ and Nainoa Lopes‍, RB Victor Santino‍, WR EJ Morgan‍, TEs Taimane Purcell‍ and Luca Wolf‍, OL Tommy Tofi‍, Elisha Faamatuainu‍, Esaiah Wong‍, Koloi Keli‍ and Artem Korchagin‍, DL Nemyah Telona‍, Fank Fanua and Kingston Schirmer‍, edge Camron Brooks‍, ILBs Jonathan McKinley‍ and Jaxon Pyatt‍ and DBs Jayden Crowder‍ and Deon Jackson‍.

different kind of speed...

"As a junior, the 5-8/175 blazer with a 10.4 forty speed had 44 catches for 534 yards and 7 TDs and 1,000 all-purpose yards along with one interceptions on defense for Clovis North"

That 10.4 Forty speed, sounds more like E40's 40 speed

I think its great that Cal is getting all these top notch high school recruits, but I'm just wondering, in this age of NIL, money, and portals, how secure are these commitments, really? If one of these players has a phenomenal senior season, what's to prevent other schools from throwing more money their way and stealing them?

Don't want to be a pessimist, but what's the reality?

I think the reality is that, until the athlete's butt is in his/her seat the first class of the semester, you can't be certain they're coming.

Plus, twice every year, there's the transfer portal. Things are different these days. Still, as of now, Tyree intends to come to Cal!

All teams face the challenge of hanging on to players. I would rather have them visiting and committing then what we have had in the past regarding HS recruiting which has been very little of either. The focus now is maintaining the momentum and playing well and winning.

It seems to me that Harsin and the coaching staff have been attracting players. The worry that this staff will just run players away has not happened yet.

It is early but it feels like a very positive sign. Better to have momentum and buzz with a risk in losing it then to have nothing at all.

That's why i began saying "Go Bears For Now" .Despite It Making Some Upset Here. The logic of saying
"Go Bears" or "Go Bears Forever"
is not reality and a simple "Go Bears, For Now" is the reality of NIL.

Unfortunate but true.

I'm very happy we are on a recruiting ROLL. Those deep lines we are building will attract savvy skill position players who kmow they'll have run/pass protection on offense (+ the QB in theory have lots of time) and our secondary will have the opportunity to ball hawk INTs from scrambling opposing QBs.

This is a turning point for Cal foitball, mark my words.

No, you say Go Bears Forever. Even though realism may intrude (or not), it's weak to acknowledge anything but the max. Think of all the recruits to us and to others who have said in defense of their choices, "they're on the rise." You can't sell that if you voice even the slightest doubt.

Well first Harsin ran off our skill position coaches (including Toler, our best recruiter) and we lost nearly ALL of our offensive players. It is good that they are recruiting relatively well, especially on the lines. Anae looks to be a keeper. Love that we have started recruiting Hawaii again.

I am curious, according to 247's 2026 recruiting rankings we have 21 HS commits, 3x4star and 17x3star, but when you look at the list, only Tofi is a 4star and 20 recruits are 3star. Does anyone know what is going on there?

Skill position coaches that weren't producing a winning offense….a major offensive coaching reset was needed and it happened.

"What's going on"…. ?
Last I looked Cal has a consensus top 15 2026 recruiting class (3rd best in the ACC behind Clemson and Miami). That wasn't being achieved by the former staff or our previous best recruiter. With the revitalized emphasis on High School recruiting there's likely a lag in individual star rankings. However the future with Harsin's coaches is very very bright.

Its based on the disparity between their 247 rankings and the composite ratings. Their class rankings are based on composite ratings but the visible player ratings (unless you click on their profile) are their own internal ratings. Santino (the RB) and Brooks (the OLB) are also rated as 4*s by composite

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. Seems strange that they wouldn't use the same metric when you click through. Glad that we are better in the composite rankings, that is more robust.
