In today’s video breakdown, I take a look at Nikola Mitrovic, the 7-foot Serbian center getting ready to make his freshman debut for the Cal Bears. To me, the footage is clear that he's a bit physically raw, but skilled. He can shoot, which seems to be a Madsen requirement, but he also has a good pump fake and secondary moves such as the drive and spin.

On defense, he doesn't have the fastest foot speed, but he compensates with good footwork and shot block timing. In fact, I'm particularly impressed with how well he times shots to avoid body contact while still finding the ball with his long wingspan.

I think he has some work to do, but with high potential and Madsen's staff I expect him to make huge leaps and show us something that we haven't seen from him before.

I like his upside especially since he reclassified up a year. If he can provide solid backup minutes to Dort this year, it will be a improvement over last year. I believe we will have more size and athleticism across all positions this year, which is a good foundation. I think each new player has shown at least some ability to shoot 3s, which should result in better floor spacing. Making it easier on players like Wilkins and Ali etc to drive/slash. Thanks, Rob, for the video analysis!

He already has skills and a feel for the game, with inevitable physical development he could be special.
