Success of Laird's Reading Challenge Is One for the Books

When Cal running back Patrick Laird announced his Summer Reading Challenge he wasn’t quite sure what to expect, Certainly not the 3,600 students who had signed up as of this week.

 Inspired by some interaction with elementary school students and his own ingrained love of reading, Laird came up with a way to encourage children to read when a teacher wasn’t making the list.
