Any problems or delays?

No problems at all. I added the tix to my phone wallet in advance, and when we got to the gate, just opened the wallet, clicked on the tix and put the phone under the scanner. Swipe and repeat for each of our 4 tix.

Took me a minute to figure out that my phone was upside down, but that's on me.

" 1 big thing: Farewell, paper tickets

Tickets were once mementos physical items soaked in memories and nostalgia, tucked away in attics and scrapbooks. They are now barcodes on our phones.

By the numbers: 98% of NFL fans used mobile tickets during preseason games this summer, according to the league. That's up from 67% in 2019.

67% of transactions on ticket marketplace SeatGeek in 2021 have been made on mobile, per the company. That's up from 7% in 2012.

Of note: SeatGeek's numbers represent the percentage of purchases made, not the percentage of people who used their phones to scan into events, which is likely much higher.

The state of play: 85% of Americans own a smartphone, up from 35% in 2011, so this shift was inevitable. The pandemic only sped up the process, with most leagues going mobile-only to limit physical contact.

The big picture: The benefits of digital tickets for fans range from convenience (no printer required, easy to share with friends) to security (more fraud protection). For leagues, it comes down to one thing: data.

"Rather than knowing the one person out of four who bought the tickets, they now know everyone who uses the tickets," Sports Business Journal's Ben Fischer tells me.
Knowing who is in a seat, and being able to communicate with them before, during and after the game is hugely valuable. It could also lead to more in-game transactions (i.e. ordering food with your ticket).

Thanks in part to ticket data, the NFL now has 120 million names in its centralized customer database, Fischer reports (subscription).

Between the lines: Amid this mobile migration, procuring a physical ticket can be challenging. That's a threat to the world of collectible tickets but collectors have gotten creative, hoping to keep their hobby alive.

"People are getting tickets by pretending their phones are broken," one collector told The Athletic
A used ticket from Kobe Bryant's final NBA game sold in May for over $40,000 at Goldin Auctions.

Food for thought ... Could digital tickets eventually become NFTs (non-fungible tokens)? What if, as a ticket holder, you got access to exclusive highlights from that game that you could collect or sell?" Axios

The NFT from this game is already worth as much as the collectible "Welcome Back to Memorial" biggly ticket from the last time Nevada came to town.

I used the option of printing at home....going in was a cakewalk

I think the NFT from our CheezIt Bowl with TCU is probably the most valuable.

I didn't think there was a print-at-home option. Did you have to make a special request from your Gold Standard rep? I had no problem with the mobile tickets for the first game, though it's an annoying process.

No, just was talking to the service rep and I was a little uncomfortable about putting it on phone. So he sent an email to me that I could print them at home. Edit...perhaps I was unclear, he gave me the option to print at home and it was easy.

I had some issues because I moved the tickets to my iphone wallet and thought I could transfer them to my group from there using standard Apple functionality, but I guess this was disabled and I had to go back to the Cal website to do the transfer. It would be easier to use standard Apple, but I guess it's a control thing. Ticketmaster does the same thing…..

However once I got into the game through the metal detectors there was a disorganized mess with too few people scanning tickets and despite us trying to have our tickets scanned we ended up just walking in without being scanned because it was taking too long.

We scanned our phones ourselves at the gate, but there was a worker observing in case anyone had an issue. One option if forwarding is a pain is to just take a screen shot of a ticket and text that to someone to use. The screen shot image scanned just fine at the gate. You just have to be sure you know which seat you sent to someone else and which you should use.

It was painless, but I had the ticket in my google wallet, so I didn't need a cell signal. Did anyone have any trouble pulling up the ticket due to network congestion? Signal in the stadium sucked for me as usual.

It went great since we received paper tickets that we paid for from our rollover order from 2020 so there was no phone fumbling. Honestly, I'm glad we had paper tickets after dealing with getting my belongings through the security checkpoint. The actual ticket readers were loosely spread out past the security gates and you had to find one to read your phone or paper ticket. Some readers could not do both. A little disorganized with people fumbling around with their phones and stuff to the point that you could have walked right in without a ticket with all of the distractions going on and people milling around.

It was going great until I got to the gate and realized I had downloaded the Sac State tickets. And then my phone died while trying to download the right tickets. So I ended up at ticket services getting paper tickets. Totally my bad.

I got tickets for the Field Club. It was a pain to get into. You had to get in another line and show your phone again to get a wristband. Then they ran out of wristbands, so I had to wait for them to get more. I hope they will fix that for the next game.

The event for season ticket holders in Tailgate Town was good. They had free food and some activities.

I had the same problem with an extremely long line to gain access to the Field Club. Finally, I ignored the line and just walked in without being scanned.

I have season tickets and didn't know anything about an event in Tailgate Town. How were you informed of this?

They have had it in prior years, but the AD listed it in 1 of his emails. It is in the corner closest to Bowles Hall. You will need to show your membership card that you should have received in the mail also with the Oski magnet. I would not expect sandwiches every time but maybe cookies and picnic tables.

There was a guy at the entrance of the Field Club that was looking for the wristbands. I am surprised you got past him.

I'll tell you this:

I 100% want e tickets, unless the game becomes some amazing memory... and then i'll want a real ticket.. and it will be too late to get it. Bummer.

What is the best way to transfer tickets to friend? Before the recipient had to creat an account on Cal Bears.com, which is a real hassle. I am referring to basketball where there area about 18 games. Should I just take a screen shot of every game and send them or is there a better way. Someone mentioned you can not send them from the apple wallet.

The app has an option allowing you to transfer tix.

If you send a screen shot to a friend will it have the date and game on it?

They were giving away magnets at the Nevada game, on the east concourse (big picture of Garbers). Totally unadvertised as far as I can tell.

They were also giving away a slimmed down version of what they used to call "media guides" -- actual dead tree documentation. In the plaza.
