We can start all the requisite firing/coaching search threads after we fall to 1-5, and although I will not completely rule out Wilcox somehow finding a way to win in Eugene, at 1-5 it's over.

At this point I'm not sure what Wilcox actually brings to the HC role. His team is regressing in all phases. His assistant coach hires have gotten progressively worse each season. His brand of football is plodding and has always been borderline unwatchable, even during the "good times." This program under Wilcox lives and dies by breaks and chance and the last season plus things have been bouncing the other way. It's always been zero margin for error and when you factor in not getting lucky bounces you get 1-5 or whatever the **** we are now. Time for some English muffins.

I'm still on the fence with regard to JW. However, I'd be fine if Musgrave were let go RFN.

What in god's world is keeping Wilcox on the fence for you?

Wilcox's tenure thus far has not been great but not terrible either, however it is starting to lean towards the latter obviously, and he has one last chance to rectify his trajectory.
I don't think its a stretch to say that any previous success Wilcox had at Cal was solely due to Deruyter/Alexander.KenBurnski said:

So its good until 2023. Old news. No extension thiis year. We pay two years. Better than Wyking.Sather Tower said:https://bearinsider.com/s/1052/justin-wilcox-agrees-to-new-contract-through-2023oskidunker said:

Last year we thought we were going winless but managed to pull out a win over the high-flyers from Autzen, so it is within Wilcox's capabilities.StarsDoMatter said:
Its over man.
Ducks have a week off too. Friday night game at Autzen against a pissed off ducks team is a recipe for disaster.
The ducks still have a lot to play for. We've quit.
Pretty much what Strykur said - until this year, he seemed like the right guy. Until this year, the worry was that he'd have a 9+ win season and depart for greener pastures. I don't read anything into the "2020 season." That whole thing was a cluster. This year is a different story. This should have been a 7 - 9 win season based on reasonable assessments of recruiting and progress to-date. This isn't a stumble in that progression, it's a huge step backward.fat_slice said:SoFlaBear said:

The search firm thing kills me. Do we use multiple firms? Like, can we at least switch to a new search firm??
These search firms seem so mysterious to me. Who the hell are these people?

It's over. Senior quarterback, 5th year head coach, and we're the worst program in the Pac 12.
I honestly don't see how anyone can still be on the fence regarding Justin Wilcox. After 5 years at Cal, his team is dead last in the Pac-12, and they clearly deserve that position in the standings. They are just horrible on offense and defense and special teams. They can do nothing well in any phase of the game. They are obviously very poorly coached, and that's on Wilcox. 5 years is enough. Wilcox has to be fired!SoFlaBear said:

Not until we lose to Arizona. That game will be the Toilet Bowl.Skeedabear said:westcoast101 said:

Midseason replacements rarely serve a purpose. If TDR were still here -- well, we might not be having these problems -- but if he were still here, maybe you fire JW and see if TDR can get things headed in the right direction. I don't see anyone on the staff that fits that mold right now. I want to wait and see. Maybe the team perks up and JW can build on that for 2022. Maybe WFT lets Ron Rivera go and we bring him home.
Here's how you make lots of money from Cal.CAL4LIFE said:The problem for Cal is that Jim Knowlton (recently extended til 2029) is the AD.oskidunker said:So its good until 2023. Old news. That means Cal will end up doing one of two things:
1) They keep Wilcox because his anger at post game pressers sells to gullible donors.
2) Knowlton finds support and fires Wilcox only to hire a search firm that will recommend hiring a coach that Cal will end up firing in five years.
And so it goes.
I wonder how many will still defend the status quo after we lose to Colorado? You know that Colorado has virtually no QB.kal kommie said:Not until we lose to Arizona. That game will be the Toilet Bowl.Skeedabear said:westcoast101 said:
