Things don't seem to be working out.

Let's go get Hope Powell and smash the glass ceiling:

1. First female football coach.
2. First black female football coach.
3. First lesbian black female football coach.

I'm no expert, but I'm hearing from my sources that Powell is "the best female football coach in the world" and is just waiting for someone to give her a chance. At 54 years old, Powell is in the prime of her career. I'm hearing that she is "one of football's best strategic minds, without question."

We are Cal. We need to embrace differences. And, because of her differences, we could pay her 35 cents on the dollar.

Let's think outside the box on this one. Comments?

So like an inverted Ted Lasso?

Trying to figure out who plays Rebecca or Roy or Jamie or Sam or Johnny or Keeley (sp?) or coach Beard or Nate in this scenario. Ok, every Cal fan on this board probably takes on Nate's role.

It's American football that shouldn't be called football. Not nearly as much foot in it as what you Yanks call soccer.

I could only make it through one episode of that show because Ted Lasso seemed like a complete chode.

Steve Kerr and some of his fellow NBA coaches would disagree: https://www.wsj.com/articles/ted-lasso-nba-coaches-11626232223

And you gotta love the guy's moves:

Maybe the character seemed that way in the first episode, but that isn't how the character developed. Say he's too sappy and sentimental, say you hate his dorky sense of humor, ok. Say that a coach knowing nothing about the sport could never work no matter how good his methods are otherwise, ok. Say those methods could never work, okay. Cynical people will not like the Ted Lasso character, I get that. But over the course of 2 seasons minus one episode, the Ted Lasso character is not a chode.

Deep down, 90% of soccer players want to pick up the ball and run with it and the opposing team wants to crash into them when they do.

How can soccer claim to be the most important sport when it doesn't test the most important sports talent - hand-eye coordination? Meanwhile, every hangnail brings the action to a grinding halt for 5 minutes. Not that it would matter in a game in which each team is rollin' if they score two goals each.

Soccer is short for 'association football' so it's absolutely a British term.

American football evolved a lot with the forward pass, but it started out pretty similar to 'rugby football'.

Foot eye coordination is more difficult based on fact that the foot is further away from the brain for most people

Where did you find this statistic? Let me guess, you pulled it out of where the sun don't shine. I understand that Americans don't like proper football, but the hostility to a sport adored by billions is baffling to me. Many Americans act like the rest of the world must be idiots for liking something they don't understand. Bizarre.

At a certain point in life, at two in the morning, it becomes paramount.
