"Jimmy Lake has coached his final game at Washington, and Justin Wilcox will be hired by UW within a month"

FWIW, he prefaced by saying "My opinion" first, before that statement, not reporting it.

No?
It's his guess, not a report.

I'm sure if the rest of the pac-12 tested like Cal is testing, the season would be over.

Poor Chase. Hope he comes back next year.
Are you kidding? He might not come back next week.
Because of protocols, or because he wants to really stick it to the administration and not play for the Axe?
Read his statement. Does it sound like someone who wouldn't dream of walking? The players were lied to...by their own.

I don't know why Bonagura would speculate that the game will be made up on a Sunday.

IF it happens, December 4 seems much more likely.

Ah. Makes sense though Wilcox and Lake seem pretty interchangeable minus the 'hitting' part.

The heck did the team do, have a makeout session amongst themselves? It's amazing that a 99% vaccinated team can have so many postive cases.

Knowing our luck, this will be ground zero for a new highly contagious variant dubbed the Cal virus.

Wilner's opinion, yes, and while Wilcox may not be the guy at UW, it would be impossible to blame him if he left.

For that matter, it would be impossible to blame Wilcox if he decided to clean out his desk and turn in his keys this afternoon.

Oops, we just lost our home opener to UCSD 80-57.

He didn't educate himself enough on the rules and/or didn't go to war for his team.

They probably took the J&J vaccine which has less efficacy and duration? Also this is probably happening everywhere, just we tested everyone after multiple symptomatic COVID positive cases and found more. Pretty clear the entire college football world is sticking their head in the sand if they don't bother to test already vaccinated players ever under any circumstance.

The vaccine is weaker after a couple of months in terms of contraction. It keeps you out of the hospital and keeps you from dying. You can still get it. You can still spread it. And that's apparently what happened.

Were you one of the dopes who wanted us to quit last year prior to beating Oregon? At least play for the Axe next week given how bad Furd is.

IIRC, there was an outbreak on the New York Yankees during the baseball season and the vaxxed players had received the J&J vax.

In terms of duration and protection against breakthrough infection, Moderna > Pfizer >> J&J.

Someone should get Troy Taylor on the phone now. Only a Cal person would take on this mess.

It really makes you wonder where GROUND ZERO is in all of this.
Either this has got to be a record for "breakthrough" cases or you are right and there's a new CAL variant.

Correct. Probably lots of college athletes got the J&J vax, because it only has one shot, and as long as they are asymptomatic they don't get tested and keep playing.

As frustrated as I was about Wilcox and our horrid start to the season, we can't put this on him. He needs to focus on football and needs that AD and Chancellor's help on these types of matters. This is totally on the AD and Chancellor - we have strict local rules but they let the team operate like the rest of the conference. Either they ignored this or didn't realize it - either way they were incompetent especially since we know things were bat crazy last year in Berkeley.

To be honest - I am now afraid of losing him. He's the best we can do. Who wants to work in this city let alone an AD that doesn't support you.

Cal has a lot of explaining to do - to its players, fans, students and alums. And I don't just mean athletics. I mean central campus.

Honestly, UC should have ignored the COB mandates and hosted this game with anyone testing negative allowed to play. We have the most cowardly leadership of any university.

. . . which is actually how the vaccine is supposed to work. We as a society have to decide when asymptomatic "outbreaks" among vaccinated people are acceptable risk.
