Hell of a game for KA. 120 yards on nine receptions. I'm 100% fine with Keenan mixing it up with the intro. I feel that Cal fans get unnecessarily uptight/insecure about this. His choosing a unique way to refer to our school in an NBC intro doesn't reduce the status of our university one iota or cost us any football recruits.

I don't know what to say, man.

It's not something I am too happy about.

Dimitrig, you're assuming the worst and IMHO it's not that. He's just personalizing it in the context of the intro, which is not uncommon. Maybe he just likes how Berkeley University sounds. He would likely use a name that was more agreeable to you if he were on Jeopardy or interviewing for a job (which he might never have to do again).

I hope you are right.

Between Aaron Rodgers and his Butte CC BS and now this...

I am guessing a USC player wouldn't call it 'Southern California University'

Does Kareem call his alma mater Los Angeles University?

And therein lies the problem...we still haven't decided how to brand ourselves. We have logos that say "Cal"; the end zone says "California"; various shirts say "Berkeley"; and we have a 15 year old commercial that advertises "U.C. Berkeley"

Some time ago (like decades), I was at a party in DC where most of the people were musicians,

very impressed that I had attended Berklee.*** ............................

Once the next generation of woke students realize George Berkeley was a slaveowner and that the land the university sits on belonged to the Ohlone, they will demand the regents to rename the school, the University of California at North Oakland.

He did it again yesterday! I was listening to the game on the radio while driving and he mentioned that one of the players was a K-A-L-E bear. Not sure if it was Alex Mack or someone else he was referring to--could have been Marvin Jones for the Jags. IIRC his mispronunciation has been pointed out to him and he just laughs it off and continues with it.

Very easy to like Keenan. He reps our athletic program well. He knew he was NFL level talent and Cal helped him achieve his objective. He was never in the running for scholar athlete awards and that's ok -- but he's not dumb. He knows that "Berkeley University" isn't an official name. But can you blame him for putting his spin on it when we are probably among the most name fluid schools in the country?

Or maybe the ultimate insult of California Berkeley State University.

I think we sweat the little stuff too much.

I say Berkeley all the time.

Things that do matter are that recruits who may be influenced by wanting to emulate Keenan Allen or Aaron Rodgers will figure out that they went to UC Berkeley. If they can't figure even that out, they would not have made it past the first semester anyway.

See the Huchian area (varied spellings include Huchiun/Huichun/Huichin/Huchian) of the CHOCHENYO tribe (also the name of their language/dialect) of the Ohlone people.

Quote:

The Chochenyo (also called Chocheño, Chocenyo) are one of the divisions of the indigenous Ohlone (Costanoan) people of Northern California. The Chochenyo reside on the east side of the San Francisco Bay (the East Bay), primarily in what is now Alameda County, and also Contra Costa County, from the Berkeley Hills inland to the western Diablo Range.

Quote:

British ethnologist Robert Gordon Latham originally used the term "Costanoan" to refer to the linguistically similar but ethnically diverse Native American tribes in the San Francisco Bay Area.[3] The term "Ohlone" has been used in place of "Costanoan" since the early 1900s by some tribal groups and, in 1967, American anthropologist Clinton Hart Merriam first published the term "Ohlonean" to refer to the Costanoan peoples.[4] Since then, the term "Ohlone" has been adopted by most ethnographers, historians, and writers of popular literature.

In pre-colonial times, the Ohlone lived in more than 50 distinct landholding groups, and did not view themselves as a single unified group. They lived by hunting, fishing, and gathering, in the typical ethnographic California pattern. The members of these various bands interacted freely with one another. The Ohlone people practiced the Kuksu religion. Prior to the Gold Rush, the northern California region was one of the most densely populated regions north of Mexico.[5]
Quote:

Some anthropologists think that these people [the Ohlone] migrated from the San Joaquin--Sacramento River system and arrived into the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas in about the 6th century CE, displacing or assimilating earlier Hokan-speaking populations of which the Esselen in the south represent a remnant. Datings of ancient shell mounds in Emeryville and in Newark and suggest the villages at those locations were established about 4000 BCE.[27]

Through shell mound dating, scholars noted three periods of ancient Bay Area history, as described by F.M. Stanger in La Peninsula: "Careful study of artifacts found in central California mounds has resulted in the discovery of three distinguishable epochs or cultural 'horizons' in their history. In terms of our time-counting system, the first or 'Early Horizon' extends from about 4000 BCE to 1000 BCE in the Bay Area and to about 2000 BCE in the Central Valley. The second or Middle Horizon was from these dates to 700 CE, while the third or Late Horizon, was from 700 CE to the coming of the Spaniards in the 1770s."[28]
