But I must say that I find it rather bizarre that there are so many posters on this thread that have "chimed" in regarding McKeever (defending her with inane posts) when it's pretty clear that they havent even bothered to read the article by SJMN.
For example, not a single Cal swimmer has come out to defend McKeever.
Not Natalie Coughlin. Not Missy Franklin. The latter declined to be interviewed for the article.
And yet someone is actually posting that they probably arent on social media and/or havent heard about it yet.

If this situation is again swept under the rug, I can't support the university any more. For years, I've talked up Cal to prospective students and athletes as a proud alumnus. Imagine the guilt you'd feel if you lobbied to get your granddaughter to attend your alma mater, only to find out you helped usher her into a toxic environment that destroyed her sense of self and nearly left her dead. This is likely the case with multiple alumni. Lives were ruined here. Many lives. This is the most disgusting stain on our university's athletic department in our lifetime. This isn't about cheating, or paying players. Knowlton needs to be canned immediately. The current and former chancellors needs to be investigated as well. Don't let this story die.

I believe that McKeever is the godmother of Jennifer Simon-O'Neill's oldest daughter.

Just to clarify, Knowlton doesnt do any "exit" interviews for Olympic sports.
They are handled by the Associate AD's who manage the sport.

The Munger "investigation" is for the purpose of protecting the powers-that-be. McKeever isn't coming back, but the administration's goal is to protect the administrators.
If I were a donor to Cal sports I would be extremely frustrated with wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on a high priced law firm like Munger conducting a pointless investigation. This easily could have been done internally or with a more cost effective investigation. These big expensive law firms are incredibly poor value for something like this. Could easily end up in the 7 figures and take more than a year.

I know of a guy that is retired from law enforcement and he worked for UC Berkeley's HR Dept., conducting investigations regarding complaints of harassment.
He would interview the various parties in question, do a 30 page write-up of a report that included direct quotes, and then an Administration official that he reported to would read his report and say, "Do you really want to put that in there?"
I wasnt a fan of the Cal athletic department under Sandy Barbour.
I saw how they bungled coaching hires with a ridiculous layering of bureaucracy back then.
It doesnt sound like anything has changed.

The purpose of using a big name law firm is to insulate the university and administrators by relying on the unimpeachable expertise of the name brand they are forking the cash over to. No disrespect to the very fine lawyers who will no doubt be involved, but you don't need the keenest legal minds in the country to interview people and ask them what happened. Big law firms love doing these investigations because it's impossible for them to lose. Dan Snyder hired Gibson Dunn recently to "investigate" their sexual harassment. I've worked at firms that have done these investigations and let's just say it's a popular assignment.

Knowlton is just an amazingly bad fit to run the Cal AD at this time and he just got an 8 year extension. Unbelievable.
