^^ alky, 100% markeisha issued the now infamous statement that cal is receiving a full revenue share from the acc but donating most (tens of millions of dollars) of it back to our new conference partners & conference in a collaborative manner to support their financial goals

wut?

the dumbest (and most obstinate) person in the room (wuz hired by james arthur knowlton)#

6956, 100% that the bears gotta start winning during the 2024 debut season in the acc in order to be in a solid position during the next round of college realignment...the key will be scheduling a winnable game for the 4th out of conference game to round out the roadtrip to auburn & winnable home games against san diego state & uc davis...scheduling a tuff 4th game would be a mistake of epic proportions (kinda like the bearinsider.com ignoring the damage created by knowlton to the revenue sports), the a-b-c scheduling formula is outdated as we need to mirror the sec model of a-c-c-d

there is zero chance that coach wilcox is not gonna be the bears head coach in 2024...hopefully justin will replace the underperforming so'oto with a real special teams coach & personally take over the coaching of the outside linebackers room in hopefully developing an apex predator edge defender that can pressure opposing qbs

elite 8+ winning game programs all got dynamic qb play, nando is a difference maker with 6'5" height allowing him to see the field & his quickly developing ability to ascend thru progressions is gonna result in victories, nandomania is a real thing...with all due respect to chase garbers, qb play has been mediocre at best during the 7 year wilcox era, fernando changes the upward trajectory (and the energy) of the program

but that only works with a strong offensive line & coach bloesch is unequivocally the staff's best coach...despite the brutal loss of leader matthew cindric, the night & day improvement of cal's monster offensive line has resulted in a significant reduction in the # of sacks/qb hurries & the bears are now a transformative 3rd in the pac 12 in rushing yards per game only behind oregon & ucla...yeah it's truly pound for ground at the university of calveston

with 13 high school commits & future schollys to starters jack endries & trond grizzell along with the next punter (flipping asu commit/booming trajectory & hang time kanyon floyd is marshall cherrington's best option on the table), there's not gonna be many incoming portal transfers for 2024

the following 10 bears are gonna be out of eligibility after the 2023 season:

raymond woodie iii
brian hightower
david reese
jackson sirmon
patrick mcmorris
monroe young
isaiah ifanse (luv the work he's doing mentoring the jet on & off the field)
darius long jr
barrett miller
matthew cindric (the smartest bear of them all)

beyond these 10 berkeley grads it will be very insightful to see which other bears with remaining eligibility walk with their families during senior day prior to the final home game against washington state on november 11th

transfer portal schollys are gonna be scarce due to the numbers crunch as outlined above, the staff is gonna be surgical in their extension of actionable offers with cal's monster offensive line the clearcut #1 priority along with any potential impact apex predator edge defender

just to refresh everyone's memories, right now we got 13 2024 high school commits plus 99% probability of schollys being awarded to current starting walk ons jack endires & trond grizzell, that means the bears currently got 15 schollys committed for the 2024 inaugural season in the acc

the number of new scholly players gotta match the number of departing scholly players, got it?

the following 21 players (as of this time, more players might decide to participate in this celebration) are gonna walk as seniors this saturday with their loved ones at memorial stadium, keep in mind that that this don't mean they won't be back for 2024 as guys sometimes walk twice during their time in berkeley

blake antzoulatos: scholly player, eligibility remaining

of the guys walking saturday it's the monster's opinion (and not necessarily of the staff) that it's critical the following scholly players return in 2024: jeremiah hunter, brian driscoll, tj sessions & craig woodson

so let's do the math: there are 10 scholly players in the post above that are out of eligibility & there are 8 scholly players with eligibility remaining who are walking who may not return in 2024 (blake, collin, everett, mason, tyson, isaiah, dejuan & jaedon)...so that's 18 potential non returning schollys plus medical retirement(s), football retirement(s) & portal transfer(s)

so right at this moment, the staff's roster management math:

18 potential scholly departures minus 15 probable new scholly additions=3 transfer portal schollys available december 4th when the portal reopens for 30 days

scholly math is FUN#

There will be some portal entries from players not listed.

Yes and they will fall into two categories: 1) players who the staff really wishes were staying and... 2) players who came in on scholly, but haven't been too productive, nor shown great potential

A key to our future will be to have a lot more Cat 2 than Cat1
Yes. I agree 100% that there needs to be few if any from Category 1. The bigger point is regarding scholly math. Cal has taken 13 commits from HS players. adding the 2 walkons to scholies gets them to 15. There is no way cal takes 13 HS commits and leaves just 3 for transfers. And Cal is still hoping for a couple more HS commits. So I do think there will likely be a few players the program loses that they were hoping to keep.

Hunter IMO is likely to test the NFL draft. He needs to close this season out strong. These next 2 games should be good opportunities for him to post some good stats. I agree with Shocky that walking does not mean not returning. Guys like to walk with their class. So some likely will return. Which ones as you point out will make a big difference.

A good finish to the season is crucial. Winning 3 and making a bowl will be tough but finish as well as possible.

My guess with zero inside info is that Cal will be looking for 10+ transfers to add.

6956, the next 25 days are gonna be fascinating as the decisions re: whose gonna return & whose gonna move on with respects to the 2024 cal football roster play out in real time before the december 4th reopening of the portal...nil support will be part of the equation for elite players...agreed there will be more than 3 portal transfers, that's just the # today of probable available schollys but that # will increase after the ucla game...it's interesting to note that if the bears win out & are invited to a bowl game that player roster decisions will be further pushed out from both an outgoing & incoming basis

grab ur bowl of popcorn (and buckle up)#

It's dod-eat-dog now, especially with NIL and the new transfer rules. The roster needs to be churned every year. Can't "force anybody out", but there will need to be some honest conversations.

I think when you look at some of the players choosing to walk with remaining eligibility that some conversations have been had already. There are a few guys walking with eligibility the program will want back. And some that I believe the coaches have made it clear to that they are not in future plans.

A few may decide to try and play at a G5 program or get closer to home.

^^ why don't wild animals eat human beings like jt & max homa and their spouses in the above instagram?

answer: for reasons they don't make no sense to me, as long as ur in the vehicle (usually a jeep) during the safari drive the wild kingdom creatures view u as part of the vehicle & leave u alone

fun fact: asked a safari guide at mala mala if he's ever had to shoot an animal with the rifle mounted at the front of the jeep he wuz driving, the australian tole me it wuz just a prop to make visitors feel safe cuz if a lion wanted to attack us like an alpha predator there would zero time to stop them from killing us all in a split second

bottom line: watch the outside backer's x man & myles jernigan this saturday at memorial stadium in person (watching on tv is for bobo & doubtful bear) & let's see if they try to violently make plays behind the line of scrimmage, ok?
So this is not entirely true. I'm from Kenya. My dad and I were in Jeep that came across some rhinos. A rhino charged and crushed our passenger door. That wild animal did not leave the vehicle alone

Note that these convos have been happening since Bear Bryant started coaching college ball

6956, 100% that the bears gotta start winning during the 2024 debut season in the acc in order to be in a solid position during the next round of college realignment...the key will be scheduling a winnable game for the 4th out of conference game to round out the roadtrip to auburn & winnable home games against san diego state & uc davis...scheduling a tuff 4th game would be a mistake of epic proportions (kinda like the bearinsider.com ignoring the damage created by knowlton to the revenue sports), the a-b-c scheduling formula is outdated as we need to mirror the sec model of a-c-c-d

there is zero chance that coach wilcox is not gonna be the bears head coach in 2024...hopefully justin will replace the underperforming so'oto with a real special teams coach & personally take over the coaching of the outside linebackers room in hopefully developing an apex predator edge defender that can pressure opposing qbs

elite 8+ winning game programs all got dynamic qb play, nando is a difference maker with 6'5" height allowing him to see the field & his quickly developing ability to ascend thru progressions is gonna result in victories, nandomania is a real thing...with all due respect to chase garbers, qb play has been mediocre at best during the 7 year wilcox era, fernando changes the upward trajectory (and the energy) of the program

but that only works with a strong offensive line & coach bloesch is unequivocally the staff's best coach...despite the brutal loss of leader matthew cindric, the night & day improvement of cal's monster offensive line has resulted in a significant reduction in the # of sacks/qb hurries & the bears are now a transformative 3rd in the pac 12 in rushing yards per game only behind oregon & ucla...yeah it's truly pound for ground at the university of calveston

with 13 high school commits & future schollys to starters jack endries & trond grizzell along with the next punter (flipping asu commit/booming trajectory & hang time kanyon floyd is marshall cherrington's best option on the table), there's not gonna be many incoming portal transfers for 2024

the following 10 bears are gonna be out of eligibility after the 2023 season:

raymond woodie iii
brian hightower
david reese
jackson sirmon
patrick mcmorris
monroe young
isaiah ifanse (luv the work he's doing mentoring the jet on & off the field)
darius long jr
barrett miller
matthew cindric (the smartest bear of them all)

beyond these 10 berkeley grads it will be very insightful to see which other bears with remaining eligibility walk with their families during senior day prior to the final home game against washington state on november 11th

transfer portal schollys are gonna be scarce due to the numbers crunch as outlined above, the staff is gonna be surgical in their extension of actionable offers with cal's monster offensive line the clearcut #1 priority along with any potential impact apex predator edge defender

https://instagr.am/p/CMu5z6ylFwY
the world according to shocky (ur invited to pet my horsey & doggys with me)#
scholly math update:

just to refresh everyone's memories, right now we got 13 2024 high school commits plus 99% probability of schollys being awarded to current starting walk ons jack endires & trond grizzell, that means the bears currently got 15 schollys committed for the 2024 inaugural season in the acc

the number of new scholly players gotta match the number of departing scholly players, got it?

the following 21 players (as of this time, more players might decide to participate in this celebration) are gonna walk as seniors this saturday with their loved ones at memorial stadium, keep in mind that that this don't mean they won't be back for 2024 as guys sometimes walk twice during their time in berkeley

blake antzoulatos: scholly player, eligibility remaining
grant daley: walk on
brian driscoll: scholly player, eligibility remaining
collin gamble: scholly player, eligibility remaining
brian hightower: scholly player, out of eligibility
jeremiah hunter: scholly player, eligibility remaining
brett johnson: scholly player, eligibility remaining
everett johnson: scholly player, eligibility remaining
thomas lee: walk on
mason mangum: scholly player, eligibility remaining
patrick mcmorris: scholly player, out of eligibility
tyson mcwilliams: scholly player, eligibility remaining
barrett miller: scholly player, out of eligibility
kenden robinson jr: walk on
brayden rohme: scholly player, eligibility remaining
tj session: scholly player, eligibility remaining
isaiah young: scholly player, eligibility remaining
matthew cindric: scholly player, out of eligibility
dejuan butler: scholly player, eligibility remaining
jaedon roberts: scholly player, eligibility remaining
craig woodson: scholly player, eligibility remaining

of the guys walking saturday it's the monster's opinion (and not necessarily of the staff) that it's critical the following scholly players return in 2024: jeremiah hunter, brian driscoll, tj sessions & craig woodson

so let's do the math: there are 10 scholly players in the post above that are out of eligibility & there are 8 scholly players with eligibility remaining who are walking who may not return in 2024 (blake, collin, everett, mason, tyson, isaiah, dejuan & jaedon)...so that's 18 potential non returning schollys plus medical retirement(s), football retirement(s) & portal transfer(s)

so right at this moment, the staff's roster management math:

Indeed they have. But now, with the new transfer rules, there's a lot more roster churning and so it's anyone's guess as of now how many schollies will be open when we sign from the portal (but we will find out in the few-weeks lead up).

nedbank south africa open: 1st round update

max homa is tied for 1st place after a 6 birdie/no bogey 66...the key to the round wuz salvaging a par with a clutch 10 foot par putt on the easiest hole on sun city course the reachable par 5 10th hole after a crooked azz blocked tee ball into the right fairways bunker, a bladed bunker shot that almost plugged into the face of the bunker that barely skipped/escaped out (would've been a snowman 8), a flared approach shot missing right of the green & a mediocre flop shot

that critical par freed homa up to play freely the rest of the round kinda like my favorite safari creature the female giraffe with her beautiful eyelashes (with the benefit of latisse like taylor & her dad)

but let's be real here, wild creatures don't got wrinkly azz pants & a ******* ugly azz mastercard logo on the collars of their shirts like max, ok?

alky, not on the basketball bandwagon at this time (don't got my old floor seats), just gonna roadtrip mañana to the bay to watch the jaylon tyson debut with my boy brenden glapion in seats provided to me by a major cal donor center court kinda behind the cal bench before saturday's washington state football game at memorial stadium...don't got no golf clubs on this roadie but the monster will be dining like a wildebeest or something & not a substitute yoga teacher (**** the 32 oz green drinks)

back in the cal's monster class era of sold out haas pavilion games with 10,700+ fans screaming their azzs off as mcdonald all americans recruited by shocky roamed newell court taylor (then in high school) had a major crush on brenden

yeah it's true, curvy brunette yoga females from academically mediocre schools wanna date & marry cal, stanford & ivy league grads when they enter the real world...it's too bad that the boalt law grad whose getting minted in the city by the bay don't wanna live in new york city instead which is tay's dream city, my daughter is an eastcoastie girl

tay's current #1 target brandon is a bro of wall street & did a total low key flex move on their 1st date by taking her to the harvard club in manhattan (haha, t has already been on multiple dates there, she wisely did not tell him that)...tay tells all of her dates that her dad is her best friend & that we're a package deal, ruh roh...brandon gets major points for adopting a 3 legged rescue doggy & financially taking care of his parents in new hampshire but who knows how all of this is gonna play out?...tay kinda wants certainty re: her future but that's not how life works, just enjoy the moment like doggys

very proud that t volunteered at a harlem pre school for homeless kids this week, luv u sweetie

nedbank south africa open: 2nd round update

max homa continues to acclimate his body to the 20+ hour flight from phoenix to capetown & is currently tied at the top as the only player in the 1st 2 rounds without a bogey

only wasted legit scoring opportunity wuz on the par 5 2nd hole when homa hit the green in 2 shots but 3 jacked it from the front of the putting surface up the slope to a deep far right pin position from 65 feet

very odd that despite the lack of rain this tournament is being played with lift, clean & place for balls in the fairways which places a premium advantage for those controlling their shots outside of the rough/native areas

very interesting that max's regular caddie/childhood friend (and his sorta neighbor in the arcadia district) jj greiner is not on his bag this week...max's caddie looks very familiar to me, i believe he's a regular caddie at whisper rock in north scottsdale...the loop at the rock with tip is 130 bucks per bag for a double bag ($260 total pay, most caddie do not pay report income/pay taxes), the pga norm of a tournament winner paying his caddie 10 to 12% of the 1st prize would be a bump in pay (nedbank 1st place pays $1,000,000+)
