Shocky, I'd lay off your anti-Tommy Tofi stuff. I'm disappointed too he changed his commitment but his brother is on the team, there are younger brothers we might want to recruit some day and they seem like a nice family. Not your best take.

tommy tofi recruiting update: tommy is 100% committed to oregon right now, he wants to open a restaurant someday & in interviews has made it very clear (just like koloi keli) that there's ZERO academic component in this decision which is kinda sad when the kinda naive young man with a bright smile more clearly realizes he's just another disposable gladiator at a low gpa semi professional football factory (that promises everybody the same football stardom while relentlessly recruiting over them) putting all his cards in his nfl dreams which could result in a ****** up future when he's 30 years old & football is ******* done with him and he's not prepared for **** for anything else in life & busing tables at the cracker barrel in south san francisco with bad knees that hurt like hell

Given decisions made by others, Javian made the best choice for himself, including going to another good academic school and playing for coaches that better understand a smart, academically oriented African American young man from Oakland, California.

I am sure he will enjoy winning 3 games in Westwood this season and then looking for another program in 2026

I honestly think he will stay at UCLA to get his degree unless there is a coaching change at Cal and he sees an opportunity to come back to get his degree here. Education is important to him, which is why he chose Cal despite our 4-8 record and why he chose UCLA despite their 5-7 record.

They are why he, and most of our offensive players, left. It has nothing to do with Ws and Ls. For many young smart, politically active African Americans from Oakland or Los Angeles who are drawn to Berkeley in the first place, there are more important issues and principles right now than winning football games. It is like asking if all the Cal basketball players that fled Mark Fox's program would have come back if he had just won more games.

Here is my summary of our top receivers:

Hamper was an unrated ATH out of West Linn, Oregon who signed with Idaho over Portland State, Sac State and Air Force. Idaho's top WR, Dwyer, with 78 catches 1.192 yards and 12 TDs went to TCU. Hamper had fewer catches (48) but his 966 yards gives him 20.1 YPC which was better than Dwyer. 48 catches in 14 games last year at Idaho including his best game, 8 catches for 187 yards in Idaho's win over Weber State.

In our game against Idaho 2 years ago Hamper did not have any catches and it appears he did not play. He only played in 4 games and had 4 catches for a total of 26 yards that year. He probably liked what he saw at Cal though. He originally was going to transfer to Wisconsin but switched to us when we offered instead. He does look to be one of our best WRs so far this year.

Our starter at TE, Mason Mini, also transfered from Idaho, he had 5 catches for them last year. He was an N.A. out of Pacifica, the #450 rated player in California, with interest from Cal Poly, Eastern Oregon Eastern Washington, but Idaho was his only offer. He originally was going to transfer to Michigan State, but he transferrd home to Cal instead when we offered.

Grizzell was an unrated walk on at Cal with no offers out of Park City, Utah. He has been a steady player for us. Last year he was 5th in receptions, but 3rd in receiving yards. The year before he was 2nd in receptions and receiving yards after appear in 2 games with no receptions as a freshman.

Those three are all big targets.

The small 5'7 170 fast guy is De Jesus. An unrated player out of Manteca, he went to Modesto JC, then transfered as a junior to UNLV (his only other offer was Morehead State). He was UNLV's second WR last year with 36 catches in 13 games for 512 yards and 3 TDs. #1, Ricky White, was drafted by the Seahawks in the 7th round. Even though De Jesus only averaged 39 receiving yards per game, he excelled as UNLVs primary kick and punt returner.

Cal fans saw him in action in UNLV's 24-13 LA Bowl victory over the Bears. De Jesus had 2 catches for 38 yards and 1 TD, 2 rushes for 2 yards total, a kick return for 27 yards and 3 punt returns for 75 yards.

All 4 of these guys are undoubtedly thrilled to be starting for and getting a degree from Cal. Same with our RBs. That does not negate what I said about the guys that left.

2025 procore pga tournament at silverado: 1st round update

beyon hun an (70, tied for 38th): ben has ditched the goofy azz broomstick putter & is smoothly rolling the rock with a conventional putter for the 1st time in competitive play after practicing with the new stick during the last month at home at lake nona...a perfect 6 for 6 in scrambling!!...plus an gets bonus points for rocking the purple shirt with dark pants which is by far his best fashionista look

max homa (71, tied for 51st): swing looks very organized with 5 birdies, it's a shame homa hit the top of the lip of the fairway bunker on his final hole which resulted in a bogey...despite hitting only 3 of 14 fairways today (the misses wuz minimal & usually only a couple of yards into the rough) max's best golf this week is very likely all in front of him!!

collin morikawa (72, tied for 67th): the key to scoring at silverado is exploiting the 4 reachable par 5s, collin made only a par on each of them...morikawa used a new taylor made putter but his SPEED wuz off all day & didn't make anything over 7 feet...weird azz choice to wear all black on a sunny warm afternoon in wine country...funny moment: captain keegan gave kat morikawa & her very cute doggy dog koa a ride in his usa ryder cup golf cart that he drove around all day consulting & pumping up his squad!!


james hahn (76, tied for 127th): james gotta tournament sponsor invitation & is gonna kill it on the senior tour when the biological clock chimes at age 50

culinary recommendation: the burger dog is the most tasty food option on the course, yummy!!

2025 bmw championship at wentworth: 1st round update

michael kim (74, tied for 102nd): michael got a trio of birdies in a row on holes 12 thru 14 but a double bogey on the 15th hole kinda ruined the vibe

Shocky, your prediction regarding fucla losing to New Mexico and possibly going 0-12 is about to come true! fucla is losing 21-10 midway thru the 4th, and I couldn't be happier. The Lobos should be ahead by much more than 11, 1 fumble at the 5 yard line, another run that resulted in a loss at the 5 yard line, and a fumbled punt. I look forward to this loss by the 'gutty' little bRuins.

funny moment at silverado yesterday:

so friday morning while following collin shocky randomly walks by the 10th tee box which got ZERO fans around it when the starter with a blue jacket announces that on the tee now in the no name threesome is ethan fang (who like eric lee did not want to read books & **** in berkeley and if pro golf don't work out for him is gonna be working at the cracker barrel in stillwater throwing out the trash into the dumpster out back at the end of his shift every nite)

shocky moves up onto the corner of the tee box along the gallery ropes & stares at the goofy azz former bear fang & in a quiet low toneless voice says "go bears"

the players, the caddies & the starter all turn to look at shocky (they are all shocked there's anybody there) and me and ethan stare at each other for a couple of seconds before he nervously breaks eye contact

fang seems a little rattled by the exchange & then pushes his tee ball into a deep fairway bunker down the right side of the fairway, wut a ******* lousy start for his opening tee ball

yeah shocky's typical day usually involves him finding humour in the little things

offensively ponys qb1 kevin jennings wuz a highly efficient 24 of 36 on passing completions for 281 yards & an intereception...it appears smu's rb1 this season will be former ucla transfer tj harden who carried the rock 15 times for 96 yards

defensively the ponys front 7 wuz stout in rushing d limiting the home team to 53 yards on a stingy 2.0 yards per carry but the dbs got blitzed for 275 yards thru the air, the bears will need to let if fly against the smu mustangs (2-1) when they visit berkeley in the regular season finale

cal's monster offensive line: watching the pregame warm ups on the field there wuz a new starting o-line with frederick williams at left tackle, jordan moko at left guard, center tyson ruffins, right guard sioape vatikani & right tackle leon bell...when coach anae called out for the 2s to take reps prior starting tackles braden miller lined up at left guard & nick morrow at right tackle

should be noted that when the bears started to pound the **** outta the gophers front 7 in the 2nd half that took place with braden at left guard...running the ball with the clock running in the 4th quarter will win a lotta ******* football games & famika is developing that alpha male identity with his room...honestly it wuz very illuminating to watch his former new mexico o-line room violently attack the ucla d into submission/quitting

game ball: shocky is awarding the MONSTER ball to wideout jaiven plummer who caught a critical 51 yard pass in the 1st half...the last couple of seasons jaiven has been a special teams coverage bad azz who does not shy away from physical contact, it wuz awesome to see this high academic/character/team player finally get a chance & then fully capitalize on that opportunity, luv this guy!!

mason mini: the tight end is a man among boyz & his sculpted body transformation from a 98 lb weakling to a greek god of relentless violence is a reflection of coach novak's (and his all world passionate staff) paradigm program changing influence (his s&c predecessor wuz a failing coach but untouchable in berkeley for too long as a brave cancer survivor)...it wuz all about mason's unstoppable desire that resulted in the game changing reception & dragging big 10 defenders on his back to paydirt!!

the kicking game: coach michael frisina is not only likable with positive energy (unlike his predecessor) & got his room operating at a high level right now (which has never happened for a full season during the coach wilcox era in berkeley)...the bears won the special teams battle tonite!!

minnesota athletic director: shocky & his cousin sydney (who is passionate about cal football) visited with the minnesota ad near their team bench during warm ups...we had a candid conversation re: how cal is perceived by the big 10 which will not be repeated here & also his belief that the ncca is moving towards all football players getting 5 academic years to play 5 years of ball

cal football housing: the landlord of the 2 football houses tole the monster that one of them has organicially transformed into "the poly house" led by the emotional leader of the bears jaron keawe sagapolutele who he characterizes as "humble and respectful"...trust me nobody has evah described the low character ucla qb1 (or the oregon state qb1) who quit on his former team in the middle of last season in those terms, JKS is a unique human being both on and off the field which is a function of great parenting!!


oski: sydney & shocky asked oski in the tunnel if he/she/it is evah gonna ******* graduate from berkeley & the response wuz a shake of the head no with the eyes balefully cast downwards...that's ok anyways, oski is gonna get kicked to the curb (hopefully just like the co-athletic ****tards jay & jenny who are pathetically tryna to rebrand themselves as supportive of football after a decade of working against the program, **** them) by buc-ee anyways

offensively mercurial qb1 kyron jones passed for 266 yards on 26 of 39 attempts with 1 interception but couldn't get the ball downfield in the vertical passing game & finished with an abysmal qb rating of 32.6...drones wuz also the hokies leading rusher with 65 yards

defensively vt gave up a shocking 275 yards in the air & a porous 251 yards on the ground!!

yeah regardless of whose the head coach the virgina tech hokies (0-3) are still a dangerous opponent when them upstart bears travel further afar across the country to college football town blacksburg for the october 24th nationally televised friday nite acc showdown
